Monica's post last weekend was titled, "Do you Whittle?" I do now! Look at these yummy fabrics that I purchased. The above is Jo Morton's Variety line. There are 13 FQ's and care to guess what I paid? $19.00 You read that correctly! I wished I would have purchased a few more to gift but now they are sold out.

There is a variety of fabrics at Whittle's Fabrics and most only $5 a yard!! The above is another fun purchase of background civil wars. It was one of those brown bag type purchases so I had no idea what I would get. Care to guess how much this set me back? Just $12 bucks!

I've done very little in the way of quilting for myself since I've got client quilts. I do have some other fun things to share but will save for another post because really your here to see if you won patterns right?

Little Stitches Patterns Give Away!!

Why Did I Make These Stars?

Rummaging through my stash, boxes, containers (you know we all have them) I found stars I made months ago and now I can't remember what pattern they were intended for. I just know I enjoyed making the stars using Jo Morton fabrics. I had bits and pieces that still needed to be pieced so I got busy yesterday piecing more stars. There are doubles of each star. I've got a total of 32 blocks. Any ideas?

Many of us have come to know Kaaren from The Painted Quilt for her monthly free patterns she designs for us. We also know about Kaaren's fight against cancer that she has openly shared with us through her blog. Kaaren's radiation and chemo treatments have started this week. You can read Kaaren's post here.

Book Review & Give Away!

I'm so excited to be able to review Dawn Heese's latest book! Her book is called, "A Year of Cozy Comforts' published by Kansas City Star Quilts. This book isn't just quilts! It is a fun filled book with fun other little "instant gratification" projects is what I like to call pillows, runners and a pincushion that is cross-stitched. I've given a little sneak peek below of one of the photographs of quilts in the book. The photography in the book is wonderful and directions concise along with full size templates for some applique.

You can see some really great photos of quilts from Dawn's latest book at her site called, "Linen Closet Quilts." I mentioned a few days ago that Dawn is having a giveaway for one of her books. Year of Schnibbles AND Christmas Through the Year Finishes!

Here's two finished Schnibbles Full House quilts. I couldn't stop making the houses and now have a quilt to gift as well as one for me! I was able to not only participate in Year of Schnibbles but have finishes for the Christmas Through The Year as well.

I absolutely love the texture that the quilting added to these tops. They were quilted with an edge-to-edge design called, "Cotton Seed."

Poo...photo turned! This is a cute little number from Little Stitches and the ornament is wool. So fun, fast and easy to make for holiday gift giving! (another one for the Christmas Through the Year)

Lastly, I whipped up this table runner! It is one of many FREE patterns you can find at Quilt Bug. It is another very fast project and possibilities endless for the center block and small diagonal blocks. I simple chose a quilt motif and stitched-in-the-ditch.

Before scrolling down to see if you've won (hee) I would like to share with you a few finishes of mine. The color isn't true but these are a soft muted green with white polka dots. Oh so cute with the rick rack trim tucked into the binding. I just love these little mini wholecloth pieces.

Thanks to all who checked in with me this past week with regards to how I was feeling after my sinus surgery. I feel 100% myself today and have my follow up appointment tomorrow. I'm not keen on this appointment either because I know he will numb my sinus and insert that long camera for a looksy...yuck!

This month's Schnibble Project is Full House. My friend Bari gifted me this pattern during the holidays. I was so excited when I saw Carrie's post and knew I just had to make these little houses! Carrie's post shows several possibilities and I fell in love with this Jo number immediately! I'm making Tiny Houses and you can download the .pdf for the measurements at her blog, however will still need the pattern Full House for your construction directions.

A Beautiful Gift To Always Treasure - And Your Prayers Requested!

This beautiful wool pinkeeper arrived for me earlier last week. It is truly a treasure as it was made from Kaaren's heart and hands. It's absolutely gorgeous and photos don't show the beautiful embroidery stitches and tiny wool pieces. I love all gifts I receive, I honestly do, but this one has an extra sentimental feeling everytime I see it. My blog friend (and likely yours) is fighting a battle with cancer. Many of you have come to know Kaaren because of her Fourth Friday Freebie she gives us through her blog, "The Painted Quilt." When many of us first learned of her cancer we all banned together and made blocks for her special quilt of friendship. What Kaaren needs is our friendship, thoughts and prayers.

Even though our home has been extremely busy these past weeks I managed to get a few small quilts back out in the mail to my customers and started quilting on my reindeer stitchery quilt that has been a UFO for years! I now have the binding to stitch to the back but I think the stitchery lacks color. Karen suggested crayons when I told her I was thinking of painting it. I'm unsure just yet what to do with it...Rudolph certainly needs a bright red nose! (The pattern originally called for the noses to all be filled in with french knots.)

There has been little time for computer lately so forgive me if I haven't got back to you on emails sent or commented on many of your blogs. December is always a very busy month here with not only Christmas but my birthday and then we celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary as well. This Friday is my sinus surgery that had to be rescheduled from last month. Then the following week it is back to work for me with quilting on your quilts.

His Favorite Gift and More...

What's with the crazy pj's kid?! Do you remember being in high school and doing silly things like PJ Day at school? These were meant to be a silly joke gift; little did I know my 18 year old would strip and put them on for the festivities! My son was absolutely blown away that I was able to surprise him with the quilt that I'd secretly been working on. He thanked me in front of everybody then later when "coast was clear" he came up and gave me the best hug and said, "I love you mom, the quilt is my favorite gift." I had the best warm fuzzy feeling a mom could have and that was my favorite gift from him.

Speaking of gifts, I've been absolutely spoiled by blogging friends who sent not only birthday but Christmas gifts. My birthday is so darned close to Christmas that it is hard to keep gift reasoning straight so I will consider these in the "both" category. I'm keeping descriptions to a minimum as photos speak for themselves. The above is from Shelley. CUTE!

Darlene mailed two packages keeping birthday and Christmas completely separated! LOL The gift behind the Santa pillow sham is a sewing machine mat with pockets.

Carrie P. had recently sent me yummy cookies for my surgery mending that has now been postphoned until January 6th. These were saved for my birthday and Christmas. Tucked inside that potholder is the sweetest vintage fabric.

Wendy sent me these two gifts and had showed them on her blog and I hadn't a clue they were made for me! I had even commented about the cute snowman in the center of the log cabin!

Carol sent gifts for Christmas and remembered my birthday too!

Then there is Cyndi....what can I say...simply blown away!

I have more pictures to show and share but for now....thank you ladies to each of you for thinking of me and sending the sweetest gifts that are to be treasured here in my hollow!

Tuesday Thankful

Karen gifted me this mini quilt for Christmas! She told me I better open it before X-mas so I can use it. Karen, I think this one is meant to be left out all year round! It is absolutey beautiful my friend. Thank you!

Debbie also sent me a packet with an email note to say open hers upon arrival. I love prim and old and just look at these ornaments! CUTE is what I say and smells so good! You can read more about these at her blog here! Thank you Debbie!!!

Again this year I failed making myself a tree skirt. I think in part because I've never really found one that has excited me? I don't know. I just know that I spotted this pattern somewhere and immediately went on a hunt for it. I found it at Shabby Fabrics and it was kitted with gorgeous flannel so without hesitation my finger hit the order button! You see, earlier in the year I quilted a client quilt using the same flannel and I fell in love with the quality, color and feel of it! I was bummed to not have something from this line of fabric, "Warm Woolen Mittens" by Bonnie Sullivan and Maywood Studio. If you click HERE you can see this pattern better than my photo. Love it!

Misc. Monday Post and Giving Thanks!!

I managed to finally finish the stitching on this piece that I started a few years ago. It won't be finished in time for this holiday season but a good start for next year! I couldn't get all the deer in one photo without it just looking blah so trust me Rudolph is up front leading the way.

In my previous post I showed french vanilla marshmallows and received comments and emails asking where I got them. They were purchased at my local Wal-Mart. This morning I made an early morning run for some groceries and found gingerbread and peppermint ones too! If your on the hunt for them I can tell you these were not near the regular marshmallow aisle but rather in boxes in the middle of the aisle in dairy. I honestly think this is the only place they found to put them. If you don't see them ask one of the employees. I'm guessing they likely have moved them a dozen times or so!

My mailbox has been so much fun checking these past weeks. I've got a nice little stack of gifts to open on Thursday and on Christmas from several wonderful blog friends. Two of my blog friends told me to open their gifts now and not to wait.

These sweet little gifts were made from the heart and hands of Sandie. She has been such a joy getting to know through our blogs and emails exchanged. Thank you dear friend!

Sue sent this little quilt for no particular reason as a just because she thought of me. I think just being thought of is a gift in itself. Sue's redwork embroidery is wonderful and such a treasure. Thanks Sue!!

Remember My Surgery Date for Friday?

For the past month I've been mentally preparing myself for my sinus surgery that was set for this Friday. The doctor's office called to tell me of a loss in his family and they wanted to reschedule for next Tuesday. I didn't hesitate to say NO for next week! My son is coming home from college and a few other assorted celebrations on the calendar. SO....new date is January 6th.

Today's mail brought a box from Carrie P. Two of her packages I planned to open next week and the third went under the tree. I thought it was cute that the above said, "the patient." When Carrie found out my surgery was postphoned she said to open it. YUM!!! Cookies!!! (hey Carrie...January 6th okay...send more!) LOL Thanks girlfriend they are so good!

I also thought I couldn't participate in Heidi's 2nd FNSI of December! But now I can since I'm caught up and won't be drugged from surgery. If you wish to participate link up with Heidi.

As of today I think I will be working on stitchery projects that I start and then they sit. I was cleaning out some things the other day and found these again. I've also got a reindeer stitchery to finish up.

Who's Pattern Is This Snowman????

At some point in time I must have stumbled across a blog and snagged the photo of this snowman pillow. But who's? I've been searching and searching for this pattern on the web and cannot find it nor do I even remember the blog! I see the initials L.B. on the pillow and still haven't a clue. Help please! UPDATE!!!! Thank you for the quick replies...it is here and I've already ordered!!!

This photo was quickly snagged from blog friend Paulette. She snapped the photo at Temecula Quilt Company. I love the simplicity of the top and the fabric color choices. It would fit into my home perfectly! It looks like another one on the must make list to me!

Freaky Thing Winner!!!

A Few Finishes

Here are a few finishes that I quilted and bound yesterday that I thought I'd share with you.

I simply quilted "plumes" or what I like to call "peacock feathers" all over the top for texture.

Thanks to Kathie's blog post about two weeks ago I spotted this quilt pattern. It was simple, yet each block had a custom block quilted. I think the quilting made this little 18" table topper all the more special. I quickly whipped up two of them.

Sometimes when I quilt on my longarm there is enough backing and batting leftover to quilt another little motif to use for a pillow top, table topper or even a runner. I've been wanting to stitch these bunny rabbits. This is now a small mini topper or could be a large mug rug. I wished I would have chosen a darker thread color so the design would have shown more. The lighting is helping to see this design on this little mini wholecloth number.

I also finished the little leftover half-square triangles quilt. It is so cute! I want it to be washed, dried and crinkled to tuck in a basket. A meander stitch would have been wonderful too but I love the peacock feathers.

Pattern Give Away!

Those of you who frequent my blog know that I've been making Touch of Vegas secretly for my son's Christmas present. Boy has it been a challenge to find the time to work on it while he is away and it still isn't completely bound.

Since it is a busy quilt I felt that simple swirls was the best design. Besides that, when he saw Rebecca's quilt that I quilted for her earlier in the year in commented he liked the swirls.

This quilt is different for me for sure! I love the texture of the quilting. A few commented that I must have saved white and black prints for quite awhile. I chuckle; not so! I had to make a point to purchase these all in one shopping trip at the mega fabric store called, Mary Jo's. I had nothing in my stash to make this quilt besides a few of the reds. I want to thank Carol and Bonnie for sending me some of their white/red print scraps to use as well.

The designer is Debbie Allen and she not only sent me this pattern to giveaway but another as well. I'd like to have the winner's patterns out in the mail by Tuesday. Another thing I just have to share with you is this post from Kim. I didn't see it when she originally posted and I've been chuckling ever since. Holiday Cheer!

Check out my newest holiday decoration! This snowman on a post was made by my friend Shirley. Too cute and even better up close and personal.

I'm so glad I made the snowman quilt earlier this year to enjoy now! I keep saying I need to make a new tree skirt; didn't happen again this year.

Here is a small tree skirt I made several years ago. I'm using it as a table topper this year. Next Tuesday my real estate agent is holding an agent's open house luncheon here. I'm trying to keep floor space "available." LOL

Every year I love pulling out these two guys! A friend of mine made these for me when we were stationed at Cannon AFB, NM in mid 90's.

I didn't get a proper picture of the whole top of my wall unit. But wanted to share this picture of the snowman that Sharon painted for me years ago. It is another picture I look forward to hanging this time of year. (not that I really want it to snow!!)

My son's secret quilt is nearly finished. I'm halfway done with stitching the binding down to the back. I'll soon post the finish along with the pattern giveaway.

Making Great Progress!!

Yesterday I posted about using leftovers from my "Blessing from the Hollow" quilt. Many of you who read and commented on yesterday's post liked the frame idea. Those 1/2 square triangles were "throw away" pieces not needed for the quilt. Those pieces cost money and to me would be like tossing coins into the trash. I wanted to show another little mini quilt that I made using the same batch of 1/2 square triangles and that basket on the left has more! Hmmmm....wonder what I will work up next?

For those following my blog you know that the above quilt has been a secret project for my son that can only be worked on while he is away to school or work. I've got the top pieced and now on the frame! Woo Hoo! He is to be gone all day today; fingers crossed that I can get it off the frame before he gets home. I just love the backing and will show more later. I had been scouring the websites for something I felt would work without spending a fortune and found this print at Fat Quarter Shop last week for just $5 a yard! It's perfect too!

This is another small quilt that I made a few weeks ago using the hexagon ruler by Fons & Porter. I used Jo Morton scraps for this one. I'm just not sure how I want to quilt it just yet.

Puzzled Leftovers

It has been a challenge to find time when my son isn't home to work on his surprise quilt. This is how far I am now. This top is fun and different for me. It has been like putting together a puzzle. Boy would it be easier to be able to just leave it out to work on now and then but NO...I'm constantly picking it up and stashing it away from him! This quilt is called, "Touch of Vegas" designed by Debbie Allan. Debbie is mailing me a copy of the pattern to giveaway on my blog soon.

Since my son was home yesterday I couldn't work on his quilt but was itching to do something productive. I had been keeping a bunch of leftover sewn triangles from the quilts I made for Kim Brackett's book, "Scrap Basket Sensations." I pulled them out and squared them up to 1.5" half-square triangles. Then I started piecing some fun little things.

Here is a fun little gift item that you can whip up quickly for Christmas using leftovers and a 6" frame from Hobby Lobby.

I'd completely forgotten about it. Today's mail delivery brought these all the way from England! Nel Whatmore is an amazing artist! Her paintings are just beautiful and I hope you will go to HERE to see her work and if painting isn't enough she designs fabric for Freespirit too! Thanks Nel!!

Our home is under a new contract and is a new listing as of this past Monday. I got a call yesterday that an agent wishes to show the house today, 6:00 p.m. the eve of Thanksgiving. Seriously?! While I'm thankful we do have somebody coming to look at our home the timing is horrible and besides that it is dark at 6:00 so what could they possibly see outside? At least our home will smell like pumpkin pie! UPDATE!! They cancelled and decided to wait until after the holiday.

Christmas Decor Galore & Tuesday Morning Quilt Stuff

My husband and I took a drive to a very upscale neighborhood yesterday. I think the least expensive homes in the neighborhood were in the upper $500,000. I should have snapped photos of the more extravagant homes but that is not what I wanted to share.

The pictures don't look too bad in comparison to just how truly tacky this home looked in this gorgeous neighborhood. There's easily 100+ plastic Christmas decorations that extended to both sides of their property and towards their backyard. I imagine if had been dark outside they would have all been lit and possible decorations would be "blown up" to create even more?

Please don't get me wrong as I love all things Christmas but this is too much. I'm also thinking it is a shame because this is the type of neighborhood that some hire a professional decorator.

While out we were also scouring some new territory and spotted a new huge Tuesday Morning store! I had to stop after last week's find of that FQ bundle that I posted about. Here are bins of charm packs, jelly rolls, and FQ bundles. Some of the quality wasn't all that but those bundles were Westminster Fabric.

Making Progress Slowly

Here are a few more photos of the quilt I've been secretly working on for my youngest son.

Putting the top together is like putting a puzzle together. I have to lay out each section to be sure I don't have two similiar backgrounds together etc. What is hard is hearing my son come through the door and scrambling to pick it up! LOL

Thank you to all who expressed interest in purchasing the blocks from yesterday's post. I tried to send you all an individual email and hope I didn't overlook anyone. They are now sold.

Hexagon Blocks For Sale

Years ago I made a purchase from E-Bay for these hand pieced beauties thinking that I would finish putting them together into a quilt. (insert a chuckle here)

So many pretties. I believe 68 blocks in all.

Hexagons pieces are 1" finished.

A few of the blocks do have some stains or yellowing.

I've come to the realization that I will NEVER finish this quilt especially since I have a simliar top I need to finish and still show you. Anyway...getting side tracked here so I'll get to the point. Do you have any idea of what I should sell these for or what would you be willing to pay to have them? Also, if you want them feel free to email me away from the blog comments with a bid for them. You may be pleasantly surprised at what I would be willing to let them go for!!

Tuesday Mornings....The Store!

Bari's quilt was quilted with an edge-to-edge maple leaves pattern. Her piecing is perfection!

Yesterday I popped into a store called Tuesday Mornings after my ENT appt. We don't have a Tuesday Mornings where I live so this was a real treat for me. Imagine my surprise when I found a FQ bundle of Westminster fabrics, quilting books and notions!

This 31 piece bundle of FQ's came home with me for just $39.99. (that is half price!) though I'd have loved the bundle to be a darker civil war, antique sort of look I'm pleased with only spending $1.29 a FQ that I can use for gift projects. The bundle still has the "old" look that I love. This is an older book that has been out for several years. It was $5.99. There were other quilting books that I already had and also several sewing project and knitting books. There was also Fons & Porter notions marked down 50% from retail. The gal working said that quilting and sewing items is some newer things they've starting carrying.

My 18 year old doesn't read my blog so I feel confident I can share a peek of his quilt in the making.

Yesterday my ENT looked at my CT Scan and sure enough found I had a small problem on the left sinus. My surgery has been scheduled for December 16th. The timing of the surgery isn't the best but the doctor tells me that recovery is within a couple days and told me I can work the next day...then hesitated and said...two days.

Just Plain Busy Here With Everything!

Okay, here it is a blog post for those who have called me, emailed me and my own husband saying there is neglect here. I always say I love a photo with my post and thought you would enjoy seeing Bari's quilt top since the colors are perfect for Autumn.

I've been scarce in blogland and do try to pop in on several of your blogs. I'm guilty of not always taking the time to leave a comment because blogging takes so much time and I haven't alot with everything else going on here.

I'll recap. My sinus issue is better though not fixed. I had another CT Scan and will see my ENT again Monday am.

My youngest turned 18 yesterday and we celebrated with a dinner at The Cheesecake Factory this past Saturday evening. It ended up being a very difficult day for my son because he learned that his bestfriend's brother passed away in a car accident. My husband and I did our best to try and keep his mind occupied and give him a good birthday considering circumstances.

We also "fired" our current real estate agent. The listing contract ends in two weeks. We've interviewed and like another agent within same company and feel she is a real go-getter. By the end of the month we will be under a new contract to sell.

College stuff....can't wait to get all the college applications sent in and behind us. We've been on three campus tours and my son is more confused than ever!

Holiday gift giving won't be same this year. Honestly, I had big dreams of making several gifties for friends and family. Today is November 4th and it isn't going to happen. I've got a surprise quilt I'm making for my son. He saw a customer quilt earlier in the year (Hi Rebecca!!) and asked for one like it. It is a work in progress as I've had lots to cut and finally at the point I can begin piecing it.

I've received many request for custom quilting these past weeks. I'm absolutely tickled that you email and tell me how much you love my work. At this time, I am holding off on all custom work however I AM STILL TAKING EDGE-TO-EDGE WORK until the end of November. I plan to enjoy December holidays with my family and possibly catching up on some of my own quilting.

Schnibbles Reveille Quilted

A fellow blogger once said that quilting is like the frosting on a cake. I have to agree especially on this one! This quilting is called custom quilting with stitching in the ditch (SID), blocks, and two borders. I say this because I get emails from customers asking what is the difference between edge-to-edge and custom.

These pictures were taken yesterday when I just had a bit more to quilt. Today I was able to get it off the frame and bound for some evening hand stitching. This table topper is just too stinkin' cute! I can't wait for the receipient to see her gift.

Life Here At Quilt Hollow These Days

This is the sweetest little quilt measuring 15" x 19" that Joyce wanted custom quilted.

Did you catch just how small this quilt is? This block measures only 5" x 7" and was quilted on my longarm.

How fun to have a surprise in the mail from Denise. I won her giveaway and she tucked lots of extra's in the sweetest package. Thank you Denise!

While I do try to keep my blog mainly to just quilting I have to share with you this photo of my youngest who turns 18 next week. I've been busy with not just quilting but doing some college campus tours with him these past few weeks. Man, I'm going to miss him!

Mountain Dew?

Two weeks ago we went to Boone, NC for a college campus tour at Appalacian State for my youngest son's consideration. I couldn't resist purchasing some apples from one of the many roadside stands. I'm just about the only one here who eats apples so I've been finding recipes to entice my guys. Last night's was a hit! However, it is just full of the not so good stuff to include Mountain Dew! I found the recipe at Pillsbury under a search for Apple Dumplings. I loved the crescent roll dumpling (I ate two!) and I did spend an hour on the treadmill during the middle of the day yesterday in anticipation of my dessert and then again first thing this morning after my guilt!

Meandering Mittens quilting was quilted on this sweet flannel quilt. Can you see those sweet snowmen in the mittens? CUTE!

I'll be scarce for the next week and will consider myself on a little blog break of sorts and stealing bits of time here and there to check on my email.

What A Fast Project!

I started this one on Saturday and I finished the top Sunday. Now it's been added to the "to be quilted" pile. I enjoyed the time spent piecing and this quilt top went together fast! If your looking for a quick and fun little holiday quilt this may be it! This quilt pattern is in Carrie Nelson's latest book, "Another Bite of Schnibbles." The quilt is only 31 x 31. Once I get a chance to quilt it will be gifted. It was fun to work with fabrics that aren't me.

Today was back to quilting for others. I may get to share one with you by the end of the week.

Star Blocks Needed.....and My Winner!

The star blocks above are headed to The Scrappy Appleyard for grieving family quilts. We are a retired military family and have seen great loss among our own friends in the military community. It is with saddened heart that these pieced stars are needed. Please read more at The Scrappy Appleyard blog.

I had a different plan for these star blocks when I first made them months ago. They then sat as everything else took priority. I'm honored these will serve a better purpose. God Bless the men and women serving our nation and those who gave their lives for our freedom.

Miscellaneous Monday

Here is a glimpse of the lap size Schnibble called, "Short Story" I spent the weekend getting the borders on and quilted. Woo Hoo! I have accomplished something for me! Now it needs some binding and that is my favorite part!

Marcie of Patchalot Patterns asked me to do some quick quilting for this quilt that must get to market this month. You can learn more at Marcie's blog. It's a new pattern!! I love Marcie's designs!

Quilted for Belva and GIVE AWAY!!!

A few weeks back I received an email from a quilter who loved seeing the quilts on my blog. She had this quilt top that she wanted to donate to a friend's charity in October but wasn't sure if I would fit it into my quilt schedule. Belva was delighted when I told her I'd get it done for her in time to have her stitch the binding and deliver to the charity. She should receive it tomorrow!

This is a closer look at the top so you can see the design I quilted called Asian Flowers. I loved how this design just about mimicked the fabric.

I tried to get a decent photo of the whole quilt top. I don't know that I could have parted with this one! But then...when your friend needs a top in a hurry....what are friend's for right?

I also wanted you to see the backing Belva pieced! Isn't it fun and compliment the top! Well done Belva!

I just have to share these with you! They were found at Lowes Hardware store in the Halloween decorations. They are small and only require two double AA batteries that light the bulb inside. (should have done that for photo..geesh!) They are about 6" tall. Just imagine the possibilities of decorating with them! There were about 5 different facial features to choose and at only $4.98 a piece! Do not hesitate to get to your Lowes if you are interested because ours in town sold out!

Well I'm surprising myself with another post this week but I had some things I wanted to share. I have all 49 blocks of my SUPER SIZED Short Story quilt finished. This is one fun pattern! I've still got borders to make.

Again with the turned photo! Sigh! This quilt belongs to Sharrie. It is called Eventide from Miss Rosie Quilt Company.

So many cheerful and fun fabrics that are unlike anything in my own home and was a blast to watch come to life with some quilting.

The design used is called Feathered Roses and absolutely was a perfect choice for her quilt.

Bari is a repeat client of mine who says she is a newer quilter but I would never know it! Bari's piecing is perfection! A favorite design called Deb's Feathers was used as an allover just to give quilt some texture.

My photos are out of order (what else is new right?) The pattern can be found in the Strip Smart Book.

Bari is using up her stash. It is hard to see here but the fabrics chosen and used in this quilt are some older Nancy Halvorsen prints that are absolutely beautiful up close and personal. Well done Bari.

I've been busy quilting and fighting off a nasty sinus infection. I'm ever so thankful for drugs! This cute little quilt was quilted a few weeks back and belongs to non-blogger Della.

Isn't this the sweetest little baby girl quilt?! Seriously, I hope for a someday little grand baby girl.

Della chose special roses all over quilting that will be absolutely wonderful washed, dried, crinkled and loved. If you are interested in this quilt pattern I found it available at The Fat Quarter Shop and it is a Bunny Hill pattern called Boutique Baby Quilt.

You Just Might Want To Double Check That Pattern!

I like a photo with my post so today you get to see the start of my SUPER SIZED Schnibble called, "Short Story" from Schnibbles Times Two book by Carrie Nelson. I'm using two layer cakes of Moda's Fandango line fabric. I've been busy longarm quilting for others so stealing a few minutes to piece has been wonderful. My goal is to have this top completed by the end of the month for Sherry and Sinta's Le Petite Club's Schnibble entry. I'm going big!

Now what I really want to post about that you may want to double check your patterns on the quilt designer's website to see if they posted an update about any errors that could have been overlooked in the printing of their pattern or book. In fact, take this one step further even if you are not ready to make the project, go ahead and double check. If you find a discrepancy make those notes directly on your pattern or in your book so you will have them handy in the future.

This happened to me in the past and within the past couple of weeks I've had two of the gals I quilt for tell me of errors in their current projects. Thankfully the one gal had only cut for the one block "just to be sure" before cutting whole quilt. After she spent hours frustrated over just the one block she decided to check the designer's website and sure enough there was a long list of patterns that have some problems to include the one she was working on so problem now solved. You may even discover an error that hasn't been reported to the quilt designer so please let them know so we can all be made aware. That's my two cents for today hope yours is a good one!

Sew Cindy News

Sometimes I wonder when I don't hear from a blogger where they've gone or what I may have said wrong etc. There are times I will send emails to check on them and most times I receive a reply. I don't always have a phone number, or an address but I did with Cindy and didn't even call her. (shame on me!!) But I did remember her saying earlier in the year that she would be blogging less and working on self. Cindy put herself first and was making some life changes health wise. Oh gosh I was so proud of her weight loss and efforts at working out daily and sticking with it! I left her alone and felt when ready she would email me.

Well, my phone rang this week and on the other end was a much welcomed phone call from Cindy of Sew Cindy. I was relieved to hear her voice and we chatted for quite awhile. I did ask Cindy if she wouldn't mind if I told you all the news and she didn't mind. She would tell you herself but struggling with blogger a bit and not spending much time on her computer. Cindy had a stroke. Thankfully her family was there and noticed she wasn't "right" and was able to send her air-vac to hospital immediately. Cindy's humor is still intact and she is a delight as ever. She finds humor in the fact that she can't work with numbers like she once did. She was a whiz and apparently didn't need the calculator. When she told me she now required a calculator I had to chuckle and say, "Welcome to my world!" Cindy has been getting back to her sewing room and told me that she was pulling out her Accuquilt GO! to make some pumpkins. If you know Cindy, Fall is her absolute favorite time of year! Oh and as for Cindy's weight loss goal; brace yourself as Cindy is now in a size 6! You GO girl!!

If anybody would like to send Cindy a snail mail card I will share her address. I do ask that the card be filled with humor! She loves to giggle and laugh.

Plans Change

Yesterday afternoon I got this good size quilt loaded on longarm to start quilting today.

Plans change when the phone rings and it is your real estate office saying they want to show your home. This is the third possible buyer since we put our home on the market in May. The market here is horrible and a darn shame the town has no growth. I'm not holding my breath for an offer. However, changed my plans from quilting today to straighten up a bit.

UPDATE TO THIS POST! I received another call today (just two hours before showing) they cancelled coming.....sigh.

Day Two - Blog Book Tour Give Away

It's my turn to share with you Sue's new book. Who doesn't love a new book that is not only for the experienced quilter but for the beginner who is paralyzed by what fabric choices to use?

As the book title reads "Pick Four" I went to my stash and selected my four fabrics. Sue suggest "Find Your Focus" fabric. Because I have a stash of fabric from years of hoarding I was able to pick from my stash. I'm sure you will agree that when you shop for fabric there is always that one fabric that just stands out and says PICK ME!

Sue's book will guide you on your fabric choices since a total of just four are needed it doesn't become an overwhelming task for the beginner quilter. With that said, you don't need just four to make the 12 patterns in the book. You can make these as scrappy or varied as you like!

Am I right? Sue has quilting options! Sue suggested just quilting an allover design on this one. I chose to quilt this quilt with a pattern called, Special Roses.

Today's Picnic

I quilted Shirley's quilt today. Perhaps you would enjoy a peek of some of the blocks up close; though turned! She likes to sneak it kitties on all her scrappy quilts.

Here's another close-up for fun!

The quilt is trimmed up and ready for binding. It was simply stitched with an all over design. The pattern is from Kim Brackett's book Scrap-Basket Sensations. Shirley used 30's fabrics along with black and white prints. It is very pretty in person and I always say taking a photo just isn't the same.

Special Gifts That I Must Share!!

Yesterday was spent with my friend Shirley. She gifted me with this sweet little quilt that I just have to show and share!
Here is a closer look so you can see the ric-rac tucked inside the binding. Oh so cute!

She paper pieced this tiny little quilt. It is a wonderful setting; if you look closely there are two different blocks alternating diagonally and then the side triangles and corners.

Shirley also punch-needled this wool rug for me as a barter. Actually, now that I think about it everything I have punch needled has been from her. The top photo shows a rabbit she did for me awhile back.

Here is a little corner of my kitchen area. I put the punch needle rug in the middle of the sifter. It looks absolutely wonderful there.

Pieceful Sunday

My Sunday was spent piecing "Sweet Carolina." This quilt measures 13" x 17". The pattern can be found in American Patchwork & Quilting, Aug 2011 on page 79.

Something I have become irritated with while looking at blogs is all the pop up advertisements! Quilt Binding Tip

Today I was flipping through a quilting sales catalog and found an item that automatically folds your binding as you pull it through the gadget. Now you can press it quickly at the price of $25.99.

While I think the invention of many quilting gadgets has been wonderful (especially the rotary cutter) I think I'll save my $25.99 and stick with what I learned way back when I first started quilting on this one.

A Finish of My Very Own!!

I finally finished up stitching on the last of the snap eyes and button mouths. The noses are wool. I love this quilt however my guys just don't get it.

The pattern can be found at Farmhouse Threads. The pattern is #906 Let It Snow. While I was visiting the website I found some NEW patterns that are good!

Going Bananas!

Going Bananas anyone? Actually this is the name of the quilting motif used for this adorable quilt. I've had the design but never a chance to use it until Carol requested it. Can you see the monkeys and bananas? Dang cute!

This photo isn't the best and did turn on me when loading it. The backing of this sweet quilt is minke and so soft!

The top is a simple one with both fun monkey and banana novelty prints and now lots texture.

I'm Feeling Like Me Again!!

July 2011 goes down in the record book as a blurr for me. I just can't believe how sick I was and am finally feeling like me again. I've spent the last couple of days back to work quilting and will show Valerie's quilt when I'm finished.

Because I like to see a photo with a post I am showing a peek of my "Let it Snow" quilt. I've been slowly stitching on snaps and buttons for their faces and the noses are wool.

For those who are always so kind to ask about how the sale of our home is coming along; it's not. We've had only two lookers. Houses in this area seem to be on the market just over a year before selling. Thankfully we have lots of time and we are excited to start building on the lot we purchased once this home is sold.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! All my blog friends who were so kind to leave sweet comments on previous post and to my blog friends who gifted me with cards and gifts. My July has been spent recovering and very little quilting or much time spent on the computer. I went to my Dr. again yesterday and he says I'm looking good and to give myself another two weeks before truly feeling like myself again. Yeah!! I've contacted those of you who have quilts here to be quilted and want to thank you for your patience and insisting I'm the one who quilts your quilt. You guys are the best!!!

Before I became ill I had been working on my "Let it Snow" quilt. I just had to make this quilt when Karen told me she was using Moda's Fruitcake fabric. You can see Karen's quilt here. I've quilted mine with snowflakes and was just needing the snaps for eyes and mouth. I was able find these yesterday after the Dr. appt. I'll show my quilt after I get the wool noses and snaps on. It will look pretty much like Karen's though. I'm such a copy cat!

Long overdue thank you to Stephanie at Loft Creations for thinking of me as soon as she saw another copy of this coloring book. Stephanie posted a picture of it here. I think it is an awesome coloring book to use as stitchery ornaments.

Shelley of Red Quilts has been going through such a tough time yet she is so sweet to take time out to send me the panel fabric, clothespins and antique spools of thread as a just because gift. It truly brightened one of my icky days. Thank you!!!

Kathy Brown had a blog book tour giveaway in June. I was lucky to have won both book and ruler. It just arrived today so I haven't had a chance to play yet but wanted to show you it. Looks like a good one!

This is my first at the computer in days and not because I was off having a wonderful three day holiday either. Friday was spent quilting in pain at my lower abdominal area that felt more like severe menstral cramping. By the wee early am hours of Saturday I felt as though I were having contractions and my back killer. (Thank you heating pad for the bit of relief.) Making a long story shortened...I pulled my back in the shower on Sunday OUCH!!!!! My weekend was pretty much spent on the heating pad in bed all weekend. Yesterday I went to Urgent Care to be told there was much more than just my back being pulled and I needed to go to ER for a cat scan and further evaluation because of my tender abdominal area. Do you know how much I hate IVs? (bad experience years ago) Test were done and it was confirmed that I not only pulled out my back but I have a good case of Diverticulitis. Thankfully at moment they will see how the two antibiotics for 14 days work before removing part of my colon. I've been nursing my back with pain killer and muscle relaxer and trying to get my inners working properly again.

SO....please don't think I've forgotten you or ignored your emails; I'm taking care of me at moment.

A Quilt for Mary Lou

When I learned of her loss my heart sank and my thoughts for days thereafter were of nothing but her family and their Sam. You can see more of this quilt here at Mary Lou's blog. I didn't have the time to make a top and was fortunate that same week to win this top from Kelly's blog for gift-giving. Thank you Kelly!!

The center of the quilt top was quilted using a design called, Feathered Roses. I'm showing the back of the quilt in the above photo so you can see the design better.

The inner border was a challenge with the double flaps. Then the outside border has a design from my buttercup collection of quilting motifs. You can see the full quilt at Mary's Lou's blog.

I received a few emails asking just how I would quilt this quilt with the cross stitch blocks and as I promised here are a few photos of my progress.

I've stitched in the ditch to help stabilize all the cross stitched blocks. Valerie used a stabilizer on the back of the cross stitched blocks to help keep them square.

This quilt is absolutely beautiful to see in person.

Yes Mom, I'm Okay

Mom called me today to ask if I was okay since I hadn't been posting to my blog.

It has been a very busy week with my family home. My husband returned from a month long business trip, my 21 year old came home for a hernia surgery so I nursed him back to health before he returned to his own place and then of course my ever active 17 year old tries to keep me young and on the go.

There has been some quilting that I'm anxious to share with you. (A gift for a blogging friend who has suffered a loss that no mom shall ever have to experience.)

On the frame now is one of Valerie's tops that she sent me for custom quilting. It is so pretty and I'll share more photos of it soon since she doesn't have a blog. The blocks are beautifully cross-stitched. I'm taking my time with this one to be sure the blocks don't stretch and get wonky.

Seeing Stars Finished!

I feel as though I pecked along on this quilt forever. It has been on the frame way too many days (weeks) and when I was working on it I was spending up to 6 hours a day quilting. The progress was slow going because of the large variety of quilt motifs used.

Because Jan named this quilt "Seeing Stars" I felt it needed a few extra little quilted stars. Can you see them?

The backing is a very comfy soft flannel and I just love seeing the texture of the quilting!

Here is a peek of Jan's quilt named, "Seeing Stars". (I'm posting for my blog pal Kelly who called me the other evening to check on me and said she was looking forward to my next post.)

This quilting in progress. I've got a long way to go before taking it off the frame and a grocery bag full of excuses as to why am I still working on the same quilt.

I'm itching to piece something new. But you know that means turning on the hot iron only adding to an already toasty 90's that we've had for the last two weeks. The yards are all turning brown because we dare not waste precious well water.

My house has been listed for three weeks now. There has been only one person to come and see the house. The market is terrible here. I'm thankful that we aren't in a hurry and love our home. Gosh, if I could just pick it up and move it to the land we bought!

I've spent some evenings stitching down bindings on these mini coin quilts. They measure under 15" x 15".

I love the texture of the chestnut swirls quilting on this one! These mini quilts were just something I through together a few months back with scraps from other quilts. It feels good to see a few finishes of my own.

The August 2011 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting arrived in my box today. My heart quickly skipped a beat when I spotted this adorable miniature quilt called, Sweet Carolina made out of Jo Morton fabrics! Is this not me or what?!!!

The cover quilt is our blogging friend Kathie Holland's quilt and another blogger friend Sherri McConnell's tote using hexagons from charm squares and her GO! cutter. Congrats ladies!!!

My Heart is Heavy......

I read with heavy heart yesterday about the loss of Mary Lou's 17 year old son. Mary Lou has been a wonderful blogging friend of mine. We found that we both love the same style quilting, both our husband's serving or in my case served military careers so I know deployments very well. Her husband, Jeff just returned from his year long tour in Afghanistan a few weeks ago. My husband's name is Jeff as well. (Imagine that...another Mary and Jeff) I too have a 17 year old son. Mary Lou always writes the most beautiful post and yesterday's was no exception though not something any mom should have to write about. I'm sharing this with you because this is where my head has been at since I read her post yesterday.
The last peek I can share with you from one of the quilts that will be in Cheryl Wall's new book being released by Martingale next June. I did not want to give this one back!

This is a peek of Carol's Schnibble quilt using a new design called Star Spangled Banner for the quilting. Can you see the stars? I love this one and thought I'd share it just in time for Memorial Day and any quilts you have that are patriotic would look wonderful with this design.

Would you believe that this is the back of her quilt? I'd say she has a two-for-one!

Mary's Raggedy Ann quilt is finished and ready to mail back to her. I thought I'd share a few pictures of her quilt. This quilt took me alot longer than I thought it would with plenty of stitching in the ditch and a larger variety of quilting motifs throughout the quilt.

Do you remember the post I did a few back showing the new property of our future home? The next step is to sell this. I have mixed emotions as I love my home however the move is better for my husband's commute. We can't leave the county until my son finishes school this next year, at same time need this house to sell to start building, at same time don't want to move twice! We don't expect our home will sell anytime soon since nothing seems to be moving these days. A neighbor down the road has had their home up for sale since February and only two viewings without offers!

Quilts have been arriving UPS and USPS....I want to say thank you to all of you who have trusted me with your quilt tops. You're the best!!

Blogger Issues?? Am I The Only One?

Because I can't show the last quilts I've quilted until the book releases next summer I'm sharing a quick little project I finally finished the other evening. The crow is wool. I simply did cross-hatching on my Pfaff.

In a way this posting is a test to see if it works. Yesterday I spent some time checking in on blogs and blogger wouldn't allow me to comment. Today I went back to check on some of the blogs I wanted to comment on and the post I had been reading yesterday are totally gone? A few bloggers who post everyday have no post today? What is going on?

Anyway, just a quick check in to say hello....honestly I tried to comment on yours! Oh...and a kitty cat picture of Meow just because.

Gift of Friendship

Today I received the sweetest gift in the mail from Darlene with a note that simply read, "Happy Everything!" In Friendship, Darlene. We've been blogging friends for a few years now and have even enjoyed the time spent chatting on the phone with each other. We've never met in person but she is one of those gal's I'd love to have as my neighbor!

My gift arrived wrapped by Ivonne the owner/artist of The Cracklin Crows. She makes beautiful Folk-Art and Primitive Banners. The gift wrap absolutely wonderful!

I quickly took this photo at our fireplace mantel to show you my gift is so me. It goes with my home perfectly!

While visiting Ivonne's blog I discovered she is an awesome photographer and snagged this photo for my blog to give you even a better view of her work.

This is Kim Diehl's pattern called, "Bittersweet Briar Cotton" from her book "Simple Graces."

My girlfriend Shirley made me this top using both cotton and wool. To see the quilt top in person is better than this photo. The quilt top is stunning! I'm truly lucky to have such a wonderful friend to make this top for me. I had to share the top now and someday you'll see it quilted. I can already see this hanging in our future new home!

Future Home of Quilt Hollow

This photo was taken Monday morning just after we closed on the purchase of our new property and future home. We won't be moving for a year so our son can finish school. However, our current home is preparing for listing end of June. We decided if we are lucky enough to sell quickly than we move to a rental home and start building our new home.

It has been a busy week. I took some time away from quilting to help my husband paint and prepare for a garage sale he is having Saturday. (he is serious to move!) Then my 17 year old ended up at the ER for about 6 hours yesterday for what turned out to be severe stomach flu. I was passed out in bed by 7:30pm last night...simple exhausted. Today I've been trying to catch up on some email and paperwork. Tomorrow back to quilting....

Has It Been A Week Already?!!!

Great turned photo! (sigh) It has been a very busy week for me so I haven't taken much time to visit blogs or post on my own for that matter. The above photo is just a little peek of something in the works that I will reveal on my next post. (promise Cheryl) It is that time of year again when the hummingbirds are back so why not in my quilting too.

This is a glimpse of a quilt from Della for her grandaughter. Originally Della said she would like frogs but then decided on hearts and loops. Her grandaughter is into frogs at the moment...gosh this would have been equally cute with frogs leaping across the top.

Carol's Sweet Spot quilt was done earlier last week. Hope your feeling better today Carol!

Fun mail and a win from Cheryl. Darling table topper, appliqued kitchen towel and who doesn't love chocolate? Cheryl also sent one of those cards that you open and it makes noise. I opened it and liked to come out of my pants. It was so unexpected yet so funny. Wished I could have seen me!

Another fun parcel from a Liz Scott. These fabrics are so unlike anything that I would buy or have in my stash so I'm really looking forward to trying something different with them. Still trying to figure out what that something different might be. These came through a giveaway that Stefanie had and I won!

I realize I haven't shown much of what I have been up to these past weeks. Trust me when I say I've been quilting alot. I'm anxious to share glimpses with you and spill more details.....soon!

Long Overdue Thank You to Blog Friends!

This pretty tote along with wallet and key fob arrived in my mailbox last week from Cyndi. Her work is amazing and I'm so lucky to have received this awesome gift!! Love it! Big roomy pockets on both inside and out along with a zipper pocket. She says she made some modifications to this pattern...whatever she did it worked and it is perfect! I'll be ordering a few more totes from her in the near future.

Mary Lou sent me the sign many, many weeks ago. Both Mary Lou and I seem to collect these sorts of signs. Thank you Mary Lou!

The little quilt top was sent to me from Carol as a "just cause" gift. I still need to quilt and bind it but isn't it an adorable mini? Today is Carol's birthday!! Happy Birthday dear friend.

I won this pincushion from Kim. This pincushion means the world to me! You see, while visiting the Philippines many moons ago I bought one and used it, and used it until finally it could take no more abuse. I was so bummed because I loved this pincushion. Kim had a giveaway of a few of them that I believe she found on Ebay. I won, I won, and now I have a favorite back! Thanks Kim!

Sweet Little Girl Quilt

Judy sent me this sweet little quilt for her grandaughter to play with. Each quilt block is a tote that will hold doll clothing. Judy did not want the blocks quilted so I just stitched in the ditch around them to help stabilize the block.

She requested sashings, post and borders to be quilted. I think the ribbons and flowers work wonderful with this one. This is what I call very simple custom quilting.

The last few days have been spent custom quilting a beauty of a quilt! I've teased long enough and now must share with you.

This is a custom quilted praire point tree.

I quilted a border design that was similiar to one of the scrappy background prints. The background is simple with snowflakes swirling about.

Quilted edge-to-edge with Winterberry design to mimic fabrics.

This & That's Butter Churn was quilted using edge-to-edge called Deb's Feathers (a number one favorite and requested design)

I'm Back

Thought I'd quickly post that I'm back from my Atlanta longarmer convention. Here are just a few photos I'll share with you. This are not my quilts but samples shared by our instructors. The pink wholecloth was just adorable!

Sweet pebble quilting on this one.

One of my last classes I took was called, "Quilting is just not for quilts anymore." I listened to her lecture for the first hour and ditched the class to go back to a favorite instructor on something more useful to me personally. I did snap these photos first. I thought this tiny tote was cute and two sided. I have more photos but just not anything exciting.

Why I ditched the class; it was mostly about quilting/designing clothing. Her work was beautiful just not me.

Today has been spent playing catch up with the house, laundry, grocery and emails. I received some quilts while gone and have those to catch up on that were here when I left. I can't wait to fire up Gam tomorrow.

Quilting In My Hollow Like Crazy!

I want to share with you just a few pictures of what you would have seen in my quilt studio this week. The above photo is a small stack of quilts that I will show in detail later. These still need to be sent back to the owners who blog and I'm sure would like to see and share with you first.

I also quilted a couple of very large tops. This postage stamp is has been mailed back to Carol.

Here is a closer look at the quilting she chose. I absolutely love it!

This quilt is from a Thimbleberries pattern and the customer wanted snowflake quilting. Won't this be wonderful on a bed at Christmas this year?

The quilt measured 103" x 85" and makes me want a two-color quilt of my own! This customer doesn't have a blog but found that I was a longarm quilter through my blog. All inquiries welcome!

While checking the underside of the quilt on the frame I spotted this cute little snowflake and just had to snap a photo!

I'll be gone from this Wednesday through Sunday to my longarmer's retreat in Atlanta, GA. My husband will be here to receive quilt tops sent to me in the mail so no worries for you!
