Making It My Own Schnibble "Gentle Art"

This is my finished Schnibble "Gentle Art" to be entered in the parade of Schnibbles with Sherry and Sinta.  I've changed it up to become more of a table runner than a square and I quilted the middle with thread spools and needles along with some spools for the inner border area.
The backing is a fabric is a perfect piece that I've had saved in my stash for years!
For the first time I happened to stop at an estate sale this past weekend.  It was the second day of sales so everything marked was half the price.  How I wished I'd have gone the first day because this was the home of a woodworker and a seamstress.  One of the things I had to share was this sweet little doll bed.  The above photo the bed is in the "holding area" purchased and I was bummed!  When we were leaving the sale I saw a gal loading it in her car so I inquired if it was for her or a resale.   I tell you it never hurts to ask because she didn't really want it and was going to paint it and sell it in her booth downtown.  I was able to get this sweet little doll bed for $8.  I took it home and gave it a good washing.  I will make doll quilts and watch my "someday" grandchild play.  Yep, that would be the inner little girl in me talking!
While this was my very first time at an estate sale it really was kind of sad to rummage through somebody elses treasures and keepsakes; the things they worked their whole lives for and then strangers come in and swoop them up like a bunch of vultures.  It's truly heart breaking.

Such a sweet new home you will give that treasure! I've never been to an estate sale... it does sound sad... makes you wonder.... I like how you made your schnibbles into a runner - what a great idea! And the spools are perfect! As is your piecing and quilting!

Thats a sweet runner and I do like spools - I like how you made it work for you. Oh my goodness that doll bed is just adorable and sweet. You go girl and plan for the someday grandbaby - think how ready you'll be :). I would love a find like that for Ms. Ellie. But half the fun is in the hunt. I agree with you about estate sale.

Hugs - Karen

A good buy and how fun to make quilts for it. I know your feeling about Estate Sales, but I like to think that the dearly departed would be happy to know that their things were going to be loved by another generation, rather than discard or junked.I have so much of may parents things that I know someday I will have to let go, or my children will....sigh. Your spool quilt is darling.

Aww the doll bed is so precious! I have a few grandaughters and they LOVE playing with the wooden doll bed that was my daughter's when she was little. :) So glad you were able to take that little treasure home with you. :) Your spool schnibbles is just adorable!!! Your backing is totally PERFECT and that quilting of little spools couldn't be any cuter. I made a large spool quilt (pattern by Camille of Bonnie and Camille) last summer for a friend; it was cute but your little one is even cuter! Makes me want to go out and get that pattern and make it this summer. Thanks for sharing. By chance would you know the name of the backig fabric, even though it was from years ago?

A very cute spool quilt with the perfect quilting and the perfect backing! The doll bed looks very similar to one my grandfather made for me... why haven't I been using it??? Hmmmmm.....

Wonderful quilt and the doll crib will be the perfect places to put your doll quilts. I like the idea of putting them in a crib or basket.

That is a cute little doll bed! I always loved dolls, might have to think about something similar, yes just in preparation for my future grandchildren (who are at least 10 years in the future).

I love everything about your little spool quilt! It is adorable.
Believe me, the people selling the items were probably very happy to rid themselves of STUFF! Too much stuff sometimes is just TOO MUCH! lol

but isn't it fun? I love thrifting and estate sales, etc. I bought a beautiful little white cradle a few weeks ago, thinking the very same thing you are thinking...that 'one day' granddaughter! I like your Schnibble runner!

"Gentle Art" is lovely!
And I hear you & agree with you regarding estate sales, I usually feel sad.
Congrats on the doll bed, adorable :)

First of all, your Gentle Art Schnibble is lovely. You used such beautiful colors.
Second, I don't think you should feel badly about the estate sale. The couple must have gotten a lot of joy out of their possessions. Now it is someone else's turn to enjoy them -- to repurpose or upcycle or whatever the new term is. Someday your granddaughter will enjoy the doll crib and maybe someday HER granddaughter will use and love it. And lives go forward,
all touched by a sweet doll's bed.

A bittersweet feeling for sure, but at least they are going to people who want them. Love the spool runner, that backing couldn't get more perfect!

I love what you have done with the Schnibble, Mary. And what a fun backing piece!
Such a cute doll bed--good for you for asking about it. Let that inner child make all the doll quilts she wants. Someday there will be a grandchild to appreciate them! : )

Your quilt is great, I love how you quilted it, and the backing is perfect. As for planning for a granddaughter, I say go for it, it's always good to be prepared!

I'm swooning over your Gentle Art quilt, Mary. I'm a sucker for spool quilts...along with many others. *sigh*

As soon as I finish my nautical quilt, it's next on my list.

I'm sure that the owner of the baby crib would be delighted to know that it's going to a good home. And it'll look equally as nice with trucks and baseball mitts as it would with doll babies sitting in it...just in case you might have a boy grand baby. *wink*

Love your spool runner/quilt! Awesome quilting and that backing is perfect. Sweet doll baby bed! We must enjoy all our treasures while we are here on earth. After we are gone maybe some one will come along to treasure them too...at an estate sale...;-)

Totally spool-endid. Well, that really didn't read like "splendid", did it? Hey, I tried. LOL

Seriously, Mary - you outdid yourself on this little sweetie. You have inspired me
