&$%@#!!!!

This is my first at the computer in days and not because I was off having a wonderful three day holiday either. Friday was spent quilting in pain at my lower abdominal area that felt more like severe menstral cramping. By the wee early am hours of Saturday I felt as though I were having contractions and my back killer. (Thank you heating pad for the bit of relief.) Making a long story shortened...I pulled my back in the shower on Sunday OUCH!!!!! My weekend was pretty much spent on the heating pad in bed all weekend. Yesterday I went to Urgent Care to be told there was much more than just my back being pulled and I needed to go to ER for a cat scan and further evaluation because of my tender abdominal area. Do you know how much I hate IVs? (bad experience years ago) Test were done and it was confirmed that I not only pulled out my back but I have a good case of Diverticulitis. Thankfully at moment they will see how the two antibiotics for 14 days work before removing part of my colon. I've been nursing my back with pain killer and muscle relaxer and trying to get my inners working properly again.

SO....please don't think I've forgotten you or ignored your emails; I'm taking care of me at moment.

Oh boy, I knew exactly where you were going with this! I've had diverticulosis since I was in my late teens (back then they called it an "old man's condition")! I was hospitalized with "itis" only once in my mid-30's (20 years ago) and the doc said as opposed to men, most women never need surgery because they listen to their doctors! Hoping the antibiotics do the trick for you! Then you'll need to learn what your trigger foods are and avoid those like the plague!

Jan said...

OMG, that's horrible. Hang in there, we live in a wonderful age, and you'll be your ol' self soon. Follow the doc's orders!

Mary,

Hope you get to feeling better soon. With the meds, the diverticulitis should start to feel better in a day or two. I've had several fits of that and it's not a pleasant feeling. Eat really mild food for a few days and it should get better.

Deb said...

Mary,

Maybe an old wives tale, not sure, but when I start to feel that sort of pain coming on (from something I've eaten that I shouldn't have) if I drink some cranberry juice it seems to clean it out and then it never gets infected. Keep that in the back of your mind for future reference.

Mary, I do hope that the antibiotics can take care of this. My future son-in-law, only 22 years old, just had his colon removed in a three-part surgery (three parts because they did a J-pouch and got rid of the ostomy bag). He's just had the third surgery and after watching him go through this I certainly have an idea or two about the pain you're going through. I'll keep you in my prayers dear friend. Also, I hope your back will start feeling better.

I hope the antibiotics work and you don't have to worry about a colonectomy.
