Word Up Sewing Party Today!!

Today I'm joining on the the Word-Up Sewing Party with many blogging friends! My word is breathe. I've been making great progress on my Town Square quilt from Kim's new book Scrap-Basket Sensations because of lots of evening piecing which isn't like me to do! Do you ever get started on piecing a project and just can't stop? This will not be an UFO!

Today I will get on the borders and start the quilting. I'll have to break away from the party for a bit for a hair appt but won't be long!

All these are trimmings from Town Square. Many quilters will simply toss these in the trash but not me! Fabric cost too much these days to be wasteful. I've stitched all my triangles and am now trimming them. I much prefer the waste you see on the lower right below the squares. Did I say waste? No, No, No!!! Spring is coming soon! Save your little bits for our bird friends nest by tossing them about the yard. It is so fun to watch the birds collect their "quilts."
I'm not exactly sure just yet what will become of my trimmed squares but do know that I'm ahead on piecing whatever that project may be.

Great idea to help the birds quilt their nests! I'm piecing a quilt right now that I hate to leave, however, I piece in the early, early ams. Looking good. Have a productive day!

You sound like me with saving the pieces! I just made some 1" 9-squares and saved the one that I didn't use. I figure some day I'll make a very scrappy quilt with all these kinds of leftovers! I know me and I will too, lol! This looks like a fun quilt and I'm excited to see how you quilt it. I love scrappy quilts, they're my favorite! Piecing is my favorite too along with applique. I'm sure if I had a long-arm then quilting would be my favorite too, lol! I just love all of it!

Good Morning, Mary,
A Sewing Party? Can I come?? I am setting up to sew some infinity scarves.

I don't throw even the smallest scraps away either. They make great filler/stuffing for some of my projects...like the sweater sleeve pumpkins!

Have a fabulous weekend. ~Natalie

You are so right Mary, fabric costs too much to toss. I remember when I would quilt with my buddies and they would just toss them in the trash :-( I love scrappy quilts and I've saved quite a collection myself ;-D

Town square looks great! I'm like you, I don't throw fabric away if I can help it. Right now I am working on a ton of flying geese segments and I am saving the corners that I am trimming off. I will trim them all down to the same size, then sew them into two-triangle blocks and make them multi-colored pinwheels . They will make a great table runner for my coffee table or a mat for an end table.

I can see why you are so excited about working on it. It is just gorgeous and I love the fabrics.

What a wonderful idea for the birds. The little creatures are all out searching right now.

Love your Town Square Quilt. I will have to start saving all my little bits and pieces for the birds. Great idea.

Love your Town Square, Mary! And I save little bits of fabric and also my thread clippings to put out for the birds. They love it! And sometimes, when a bird builds a nest in one of my trees, I can see bits of my fabrics sticking out of their cozy little home...so fun!

XOXO,

Cyndi

What a fantastic quilt - I can see why you can't stop. Glad to see someone else use up those tri's. The little niblets to the birds is a great idea, but we are still freezing and snow - no little nesting birds back yet. But I promise to remember this when they do.
