Between Charming Friends & Asking For Opinion

Here's my Between Charming Friends quilted and bound. It is much smaller than the original pattern measuring 23 x 27.

I've rounded the corners. Thanks Kelly and Darlene.

May I get an opinion? Look at the two photos below. These were taken in a corner of my living room. Which quilt do you feel looks best in my home? They are both Schnibbles Picnic pattern using Jo Morton fabrics.

My opinion...the lighter one looks best. And I'm not just saying that because I want to steal away your other one. *wink*

But to be honest, they both look in different ways.

Cara said...

They both look good, but the black seems more wintery, and the lighter one more summer. Does that help?

Marcy said...

My first thought was both, because I would use one for the winter look, the other for the summer.

ann hermes said...

imho, the second, second one looks better.

onlymehere said...

They're both lovely but I agree with Cara about the lighter one for the season. I couldn't enlarge the first pic so it was harder to tell. It looks good too though. Not much help am I?, lol!!

Shakerwood said...

I like the lighter one better. But then again it hot as Hades out today and I tend to go with anything lighter in the summer.

Love how the Between Friends turned out. The rounded corner is a great idea. Much faster than my 16-patch!

I like the lighter one best too.

Hmm, I like the darker, as the chair is light, the blinds are light, I think it shows up better with the contrast.

Deb said...

I think that they both work well, but I think that I would use the lighter one in the summer and the darker one for the winter.

Linda said...

I like the darker one, but I like the fall/winter look better than summer! Remarks about the seasons are spot on...the lighter one is probably best for summer.

Millie said...

Mary, both quilts look good in your home. I will use the lighter one for now as a summer quilt and then later on the darker one for the winter months. Well, this sounds like you have to make one for fall too in yellow, brown and orange colors.

Michelle said...

What pretty quilts!

The second one, makes the area look bigger.

mckie2 said...

I like the lighter one. The dark one is kind of depressing. The light one is cheerful.

*sigh* this is the third try for me to post this...I may just email you if I lose this one. Okay, I love both quilts. However, the contrast of the darker version really accents your chair more to my eye. I love distinct contrast, it always speaks to me. It also looks lovely against the pillow sitting on the chair. AND your little 'Quilt Along' quilt is wonderful! I especially adore the rounded corners. So great. I'm ready to quilt mine. I got a great new 24" X 24" extension table for my sewing machine so I'm finally going to be able to do something besides 'stitch in the ditch' on my smaller projects. I've been practicing and I think I can do it. (I hope, LOL) Thanks so much for sharing the pics of your quilts. They are all so beautiful. Your quilting is exquisite. Big hugs coming your way.

I like the darker one for your room better.

I also meant to ask you, is the other quilt in the photos (the HST's) also a Schnibbles? That is a really fun quilt too. Love it!

Janet said...

They are both wonderful! The lighter one shows up more.beted

Good Afternoon,
I actually like the darker one there in that spot...
The darkness of the frame pulls the eye up...so the lighter quilt just gets lost with everything else. The darker quilt becomes more of a focal point in the second photo...

Both are beautiful, tho'! ~Natalie

I'm with Cara, I like the look of both of them but the dark one says winter and the lighter one says summer.

Pat said...

I like the darker one because it doesn't blend in with the color of the chair. I agree that the very bestest option would be to rotate -- lighter for warmer weather & darker for winter. Or give them both away (I'll tke either) and make another one (evil chuckle).

Love those rounded cornes and the quilting on the Charming Friends.

Terry said...

I love them both! But it seems to me the darker one goes more with the pillow you have in the chair than the lighter one does. Just my opinion! :0)

Deanna said...

Light--the contrast is brighter and it ties to the piece of wooden furniture on the left. Just my vote.

Barb said...

I love the darker one....

Suzanne said...

I love the darker one. It stands out better and plays off the picture on the wall.
(They are both beautiful though!);o)

Pat said...

The darker one makes the area look smaller but would be cozy for colder weather....and the lighter one makes the area look bigger and matches the one light piece of furniture seen to the left. I agree that you should change them with the seasons. IF you only want to do one, though, and for some unimaginable reason NOT use the other, I'd opt for the light one.

Danielle said...

I think the darker one is more "standout", and the lighter one blends in with the room. I Like the darker one personally...

Sue-Anne said...

I like the darker one better but maybe that's because it is winter here. I think they both look good and have totally different looks - light for summer, dark for winter.

Gayle Bong said...

I far prefer the darker one. The light one blends in only cause it is light like everything else. Against the light chair it doesn't coordinate or match to my eyes.
Isn't if funny how we all see the same thing in a different way?

Gene Black said...

I like the rich contrast of the darker quilt. Both of them look good, but my preference is the darker one because it breaks up the neutral scheme a bit and adds a focal pop.

Gene Black said...

oh yes, it also pulls in the lamp, picture frame and the edge of the plate in the buffet.

Magnolia Bay Quilts said...

I like the darker one against the chair -- lots more contrast, and the quilt is more noticeable.

Love your quilt-along. That's so adorable!

call me crazy said...

Both are beautiful! But the darker one seems too warm for this time of year. Isn't that funny how a quilt can convey temperature? Have a great evening!

Becky said...

Congratulations on finishing your Between Charming Friends! Looks great! At first glance, I prefered the lighter tone quilt, but I think that's because I prefer muted tones. The darker one works well with the throw pillow and other colors in the room. It's actually a win-win situation. They both fit the room.

ana s. said...

I would use the light for summer and the dark for winter seasonal use. They both are lovely.

Susan said...

I agree with Cara...go with the lighter quilt for summer and the darker for the winter months!

Happy Cottage Quilter said...

I like the lighter one on the chair. They both look very different with the different fabrics.

Kim said...

The dark quilt seems to pop more color out of the decorations in the room than the lighter one. They are both perfectly nice looking in the room, but the darker looks richer, adds some interest instead of just laying there blending in. So there you have it, keep the darker one and put the other in the mail...

Jo said...

Hey Mary
I think the dark gives more of a wintery warm look and the lighter a softer summer look. How's that for an answer?

Candace said...

If you're going to force me to chose, then I'll take the second photo, but I really like them both! Why not put the darker quilt out for fall/winter and the lighter one for spring/summer? Cute pillow!
Cheers!

Winona said...

I can't believe I am saying this, because I always like darker quilts, but I like the lighter one better. They are both very pretty. Love the curved borders on your Charming Friends. Winona

Gypsy Quilter said...

I do like the lighter one, but it is your house and you can switch them around as often as you like!

Wendy said...

Only my preference here, but I prefer the darker quilt. Love the pop. Beautiful quilts! I may have to steal the rounded corner idea :) :)

WoolenSails said...

Looking at them, I am thinking the lighter one since it is summer and the darker one would be nice in the winter.

Carol said...

I like the one with the black background. They are both very nice bit I think the black version works best in your living room with your other quilt and pillow. Good for you getting your between charming friends quilt all done, looks great.

AnnieO said...

Oh, will there be a tie? It seems there are just as many "likes" for each :)

I like the lighter one but both are beautiful basket quilts!

Joyful Quilter said...

Ha Ha Ha LOL I don't think this group is going to help your decision process at all, looks like a pretty even split of votes. Maybe my vote will be the deciding one...I vote for the dark, I like the contrast.

Mary said...

i like the dark one best. The light one makes the pillow and chair look blah. But either would be fine. Good luck sorting thru this mish mash of votes. I think that it must be too close to call.

Karen said...

Hey Mary, what a cute corner. I do like the darker one better, but the lighter one is so cute. Which do you like?

paulette said...

I LOVE THEM BOTH!! BUT I like the black one better...it pops the chair and the black framed picture beside it!! BUT they both look amazing...;o)

They're both lovely, but I think the lighter one makes the room look brighter.

I like the lighter one. The dark one is kind of winter. The light one is cheerful.

Janet said...

Oh I'm full of opinions - lol I like the lighter one best. :0)

QuiltSue said...

I think the basket quilt looks best, it shows up more somehow. Of course, if you listen to me, it means the other one is homeless, but I'll adopt it if you like!

Jan said...

while the black one really pops, I think the other looks better in your photo.

Christine said...

I love the darker one on your chair.

They are both lovely.

cheers

I love the lighter one for right now. Your home is gorgeous!

Kim D. said...

Lots of opinions here, I like them both, the lighter one matches the other quilt and your furniture. The darker one adds contrast. I like the idea of changing them out, summer vs. winter. Both are very beautiful!!

Karen said...

The dark one but then you know I walk on the "dark side" and would probably pick that.

Janet said...

I think one would be good for summer and one for winter because they both look great. I like the rounded corners on your quilt.

Shelley said...

The dark one!! It compliments the dark of the lamp pole and the picture frame and it's just more primitive looking!! Like it Mary! O BTW, that pillow on your chair, get this....I just made one like it! LOL! Too funny!

Sharon said...

Both are great looking quilts! I vote for the lighter version. I love your BCF quilt...it turned out lovely...I hope to get mine sewn together today!

Stephanie D. said...

I like the lighter one for summer, but the darker one would look nice for winter.

Am I indecisive? Sometimes.

Rebecca P said...

I love both the quilt patterns, very pretty. However I think the lighter one goes well with the soft colors of your room. It gives more of a flow to the room

Vivian said...

You probably don't need another opinion--looks like you have a even split on light vs. dark vs. use both for different seasons. I'm enjoying reading the comments, and there are so many opinions! Anybody else in your house who has a preference? Friends who visit often who'd prefer seeing one or the other?

I bet one or the other just seems right to you. Any decision yet?

Carrie P. said...

My vote is for the darker one. It looks better against the light chair.

Quilt Rat said...

Beautiful! Both of them. I have to say that I prefer the darker one. Just seems to add a little drama

Kaaren said...

The darker one because it gives the eyes a place to rest as it travels through the picture/room and provides a center of interest.

The lighter one fades or blends into the background providing no drama.

Which is your preference, Mary because that's what counts. *wink*

Katie :o) said...

I love the black background quilt! Very striking. And it brings out the wrought iron lamp. Really draws me in.

Sharon said...

I like the darker one myself. Love them both but the darker one for sure. It really stands out there on the chair. There great!

Mary said...

I especially like the lighter one. But why not use one in the colder months and one in the warmer months.

Wendy said...

Did you decide yet? I think the lighter version. And your between friends quilt is wonderful.

Lauralee @ The Eclectic Stitcher said...

I love both quilts, but I think the 2nd one looks best. And I love Charming Friends ~ looks wonderful!

Lisa said...

I like the look of the lighter one because it just blends better, but the darker one really pops!

Darlene said...

How did I miss this post? grrr!

Well,I like both on the chair - true beauties you should enjoy.

I'm quite smitten with your "Between Charming Friends" quilt. I'm glad you enjoyed making it and thank you!

Kelly@ Charming Chatter said...

Oh, you quilt turned out just lovely, Mary! I really like the rounded corners! Way to sew! I love both of the quilts - but I think I like the lighter one best!

Heidi said...

Hi there Mary!!! Love your Charming Friends quilt! It is so beautiful and those rounded corners make it unique. I just love how that turned out. You work so fast and I just cannot keep up. I am hand quilting mine and it has been too hot. It finally got cool enough yesterday to work on it once again.

I love both the quilts on your chair but if I HAD to pick one it would be the second photo as it work well to balance all your colors in your room. But I say use the dark one is autumn and winter and the light one is spring and summer. :-)

Have a great weekend my friend!

Hugs from Holland ~
Heidi

I love the quilt handing by the ottoman.........As most people know, I'm not into the basket quilts. I only made the Picnic Schnibbles because it was a monthly assignment.

Cheryl said...

I prefer the lighter one-and that would be year round. Ypor quilt-along quilt looks fab!

Gretchen said...

Great Between Friends quilt! I think the darker basket quilt is my choice because it pulls in the darker color of the lamp and makes a nice contrast with the color of the chair. I like the lighter one too though. Maybe alternate by month?
