Quilt Festival

I'm glad I didn't miss out on this little party over at Amy's.
So many bloggers are sharing awesome quilts and sharing their stories. Click on Amy's name above it should link you to her post and a listing of many participates. The quilts being posted are amazing and gives you a chance to discover some new-2-u blogs.

There isn't a whole lot to tell about this wall-hanging. Have you ever made a gift for a friend to only find you wanted to keep it? I have. The quilt above is the perfect example of that. I only had so much fabric to make this one quilt and loved it so much that I had to whip up another gift. I don't know that she would have loved it nearly as much as I do. There is just a small bit of applique and I added cute little buttons for the flower centers. This was quilted on my Pfaff since I didn't own my Gammill back then. This really does match my home better than hers.

Guilty as charged! I actually made two of the table toppers a couple of years ago for Christmas bz I liked how my mother-in-law's gift turned out! Luckily I still had enough of most of the fabrics. After they came back from the quilters I decided which one to give her! I really like this quilt, and you know I love those colors too. We both tend to like the same colors in quilts.

I love it too Mary! You're smarter than me,...I have given away and wished I'd kept. the worst part..they didn't even use it:(

This really is gorgeous!

I think we are all guilty of that, lol.
Sometimes I keep something and enjoy it for awhile, then give it away;)

I don't think I've ever done that but I can see how it could happen. LOL

Sweet quilt, Mary.

It is so pretty and I know exactly what you mean. There are many that I have given only to wish that I had kept them. SIGH!!!

Good for you making two! It's a great quilt...and I think the maker always appreciates it more...unless you're giving a gift to a fellow quilter...they appreciate quilts!

Cindy said...

I think Sherri is absolutely right. Unless a quilt is given to a fellow quilter, it's not appreciated as much. A quilter knows what time and love goes into making a quilt.

Mary, good for you - keeping something that you put so much love into as you made it.

That being said, I'm keeping the one I'm about to quilt today...LOL

It can be really hard to part with a quilt you adore--I like it when I still get to see the quilts I've made as gifts. That is a sweet wall hanging, and I agree, it does go with your house :) Thanks for sharing your quilt's story, Mary!

From the photos I've seen on your blog since I "met" you, I'd have to say that goes perfectly in your house, so it's good that you kept it!

Can't say that I have~ but I have kicked myself for not doing that! Especially when you find out your friend has it in a cupboard. :-/ Its a gorgeous wall hanging and would not be living in a cupboard at my house! :-)

That's precious! I love the churn dash inner border. You were smart to keep this one. :)

Smart gal to keep something so special. I think I recognize this as an adorable Joined at the Hip magazine project that I've earmarked to tackle some day.
Love your fabric choices!

Mel said...

OH! I love this AND I even have the pattern!

I haven't made it up yet, but now I really want to!!

Joanne said...

Beautiful! Love the borders.
I have also made something and ended up keeping it!!

Sue said...

I can see why you wanted to keep that. It's beautiful! The fabric choices are just lovely.

Always enjoy your posts!

I've done that too! :) Always keep what you love and make them something else. So glad I'm not the only one. Lovely!

I can see why you kept this quilt. And, yes, I sometimes have trouble giving away one that I was making for a gift. I gave away a bed size one that I wish I owned. I should make myself one but have never taken the time.

Well I'd wanna keep it. It's great, love the colors too.

Wow, I just went and looked at Amy's post. 419 have signed up.

Can't think of any I have given away that I wish I kept. Dear Hubby may know of a couple that HE wished I had kept! He likes everything that I make! He's such a sweetie.

It's a great quilt Mary and only you would know how much you would enjoy it! Very pretty.

I think your wall hanging is very lovely. And it was a good decision to keep it :-)

Usually when I want to keep a quilt, I know it's decent enough to give away. If I never want to see the thing again, I should NOT give it to anyone. Too many "design features" have shown up in it. ;)

By the way, I also began quilting in 1989. Glad to meet another 21 year quilting veteran.

Janet said...

No I haven't done that but I can understand why you did, it's a lovely wall hanging.

QuiltSue said...

actually, it would suit my house brilliantly. Just saying. It's lovely.

What a pretty piece - I can understand your keeping it!

Lori said...

Yes, I have done that! Although I've made a quilt for me but instantly thought of another person who would like it better so ended up giving it away.
It's a beautiful little quilt.

I love your little quilt and I can certainly relate to making something for someone else and not being able to part with it!

I am enjoying the quilt show very much and thank you for sharing.

Bless your heart, it sounds like you're still guilt ridden over it !
