Spin City

How about I share the beginnings of Spin City? Actually the name is perfect for what I feel like when I'm trying to stitch with son #1 just across the quilt studio from me. Our upstairs is open and this is my husband's office with big screen tv that the boys have elected to put their X-Box on because it so "so much better." My head just starts spinning and I can't concentrate when I keep hearing the games they play not to mention their hootin' and hollerin' at the tv!

Yes, quilt tops to be quilted here but not with all this hootin' and hollerin'! (secretly going crazy in the hollow)

You know you'll miss them when they are gone!! Just not today! What happened to the days when the kids used to entertain themselves by reading?

I feel your pain. Normally, I relax when I sew, but my son #2 has set up his x-box in the room right outside my sewing area and I have to listen to all the noise from that. It will definitely make your head spin.

Love your new quilt...totally understand about the boys.

I know exactly what you mean. My son does the same exact thing. I'm getting pretty good at tuning it out. Happy New Year!

I love my xbox. The only solution is to move the tv... or buy them one and place it elsewhere.

They could use the headphones but you would still hear the chatter and exclamations.

Very soothing colors though.

Love your new mini! I haven't found a solution to the video game craziness either,.. maybe ear plugs for you:-)

I do understand your situation, and I agree, you will miss them terribly when they are living elsewhere, but until then, could you move the tv, (hopefully they will follow)

Boys will be boys! LOL My sons played with Atari and now my grandsons play with X-Box, Wii, Sony Playstation, etc. It's never quiet. :-)

Love the new Schnibbles quilt - very, very cute.

It's all quiet here Mary....my son moved out a couple of weeks ago....I miss him .....(but not his mess!!).....the upstairs rooms are tidy...and very quiet! Now if I could just find some time to sew.............!

Ooh -- I love those quilt blocks!!! Absolutely gorgeous!

Cindy said...

What do they say, "Enjoy it while you can"? LOL

Well, it does appear like you're getting some sewing done - whether YOU'RE spinning or not.

Atleast being sick NO ONE wants to be around........is that a good thing?

Oooh...BOOMer! I don't care for such noise, it rattles my brain and wears me out. Have you tried ear plugs? The new quilt that you are piecing is real pretty - love that one, too. A delightful distraction from the noise. Hang in there!

Wow, you started your Spin City quilt. Your blocks look great. Maybe you need to get an ipod and block out the sound.

I feel your pain. Keith is a gamer and I often quilt (or try to read) to the sounds of armies blowing up heaven knows what. Glad you've stayed sane enough to get starte don a new little Schnibbles. Looking good so far!

I share the problem only its not a child but DH! I can't relax and sew when he's shooting things and yelling at the tv

Kaaren said...

X box...isn't that the box that you put your "x" in when voting...or buying a lottery ticket? (wink)

I feel for you, Mary. It takes a while to get used to the noise that you're no longer used to, huh? It'll get better...soon.

Sounds like you might need to have a family meeting and set some "guidelines" for when they are home for the long summer break.....as in: certain hours that TV will be OFF-LIMITS to game-players!!! After all, some of what you do is a business and they need to respect that and give you time to do things without all that distraction. Just because your job is at home does NOT make it any less of a job. (I run into that when I do medical typing at home now....they think I can just stop and start and do it on THEIR schedule......"NOPE, sorry!!! Be quiet, go away, and let me do my work!!!")

Love the beginning of Spin City! I like the other quilt shown too. Xbox? Will I'm not listening to that because we don't have one. Have a Playstation 2 though and dear son is in there in the game room right now hollering at something to do with it! Ugh!

All our company left Sunday, its sooo (wonderfully) quiet!! Your quilting is looking great.... I feel your distractedness!!

Time to put the earbuds from the iPod in your ears and turn on the soothing music!

Love the star quilt on point. My dh had his PS2 on the living room big screen last night with a 4-wheel driving game. It looked like fun, but not when you've got quilting to do and want to peace and quiet.

Terry said...

You need a set of earphones that play music! I use them when I mow and they'd surely work to drown out the sound of the kids! :0)

Those are such pretty blocks!!! Maybe the kids will take a nap??? or go to a friend's to play?

I agree. The sounds of the video games drive me nuts and I can't concentrate! It's a lot quieter around here now and soon my sewing room moves downstairs by my office so it will be even quieter. Good luck and/or enjoy!

Thank goodness, my boys went back to school this week. Between the Wii and all of their lego's taking over my den, I was about to lose it.

Love your Spin City! Which fabric line is that? Did it take charms or jelly rolls? Can't wait to see it all come together.

Love your blocks. If I remember correctly you have done quite a few patterns from that designer. They must be well written. I am doing a shop sample this week and while the finished products are nice the designer always seems to have an error somewhere in the pattern. This one is nine rectangles cut 1/4" too short - luckily enough fabric to recut.

When do the boys go back to school? Mine started back this week. Maybe there are some advantages to having a girl - who turns 16 tomorrow!
Enjoy the boys and the knowledge that they want to have fun together and they must want to be near mom. My daughter is iffy on that and as an only, doesn't have a built in partner in crime.

Try telling them if they're noisy, you'll make them hand-sew binding! :)

Love your Spin City quilt!

Another Miss Rosie pattern. I like the fabrics you are using in the spinners.
There is something to be said about "piece and quiet".

I love your quilt and to make you laugh....I am the one who plays the games in the family.

Hootin and hollerin surely distracts from the peace of piecing, but you're doing a great job!

It's nice and quiet at my house, I totally understand how you feel. Hang in for a few more days. The quilt looks great.

Oh ya I get that totally. Even home for Christmas break the games come home - hooked up to the sunroom TV - there's no escaping it, lol - no matter how old they are.

Love the quilt blocks - purty :).

Hugs- Karen

Mary, you asked me if I have made this Spin City quilt. No, I haven't. I was trying to figure out what pattern would be good with the Old Primrose Inn charms and I thought perhaps the Spin City would look good, and it does. Do you have this quilt done by now? Is your other son off tomorrow to go back to school? If so, peace and quite will be in your house again soon. Have a nice weekend.

Thinking of you (we have three sons...) I love all their comings and goings now. There are times of quiet, and I do love it. Never been lonely!!!

I love spin city, well how you are making it it. I don't have that one yet.

Wishing you Peace/Piece and quiet (for a while.)

Earplugs, or an ipod, will it help? The spin city looks neat, I did that pattern once but it had three blades I think.
