With Gratitude...

If you don't like what you see here today feel free to move on. It is my blog, my words and my feelings, not yours. Otherwise, stay and enjoy while I send many words of thanks to those who have touched me these past few days.
First up is part of my birthday gifts I received from my family. I didn't snap a picture of the shoes, night gown or new fantastic air compressor for my longarm...however, did snap a shot of these gorgeous roses along with my new furry friend. Most of you know me well enough by now to know that I love animals and especially kitty cats. Unfortunately my family has asthma and allergies. I long for a little gray kitten of my very own and being a smarty pants I added it to my birthday wish list. Item #7 simply stated: Kitty Cat (gray). They got me good with this one. If I squeeze her back it purrs, meows and moves. It appears as though I will still look forward to neighbor's pets when they visit me for their treats. Oh yes, cupboard full of treats and I have no pets!

Rather than stringing out a bunch of photos I tried to put together many of the gifts I received on my 50th birthday yesterday. Some of you reading are likely tired of hearing me talk about it...please feel free to leave now. Otherwise, lets continue on shall we?
With many thanks and much gratitude I have numerous to thank to include all who emailed me, called me, sent me cards and gifts. I'm appreciative beyond words. You took the time to think of me and now I want to take the time to thank you. Those who know me best know exactly how I feel about my December day. Oh yes, I go on and on about it at times but you know what...after this year and to see how many cared about my feelings I would have to say that this birthday was by far the best ever!
My day started off with meeting my friend for breakfast. Thank you Sandi for taking the time out of your busy holiday schedule to spend just a few hours with me yesterday morning. Sandi gave me the prettiest birthday wrapped box with gorgeous birthday wrap and pink ribbon! Inside was the wonderful batik jelly roll in neutrals.
When I returned home I had a delightful surprise phone call from Darlene. We talked and talked and I enjoyed every minute of her time she spent with me. Thank you! Of course other calls came so much of the afternoon was on the phone.
Then my husband, two boys and possible future DIL went to dinner and home again for my gifts. I opened their's first that I mentioned above. I have to tell you that as they watched me open cards and gifts from blog friends they just kept asking, "Do you know this person?" "How do you know this isn't possibly a dirty old man that you correspond with?" My response to that is, "Well, if it is he sure is a fantastic quilter and loves fabric!" Hee!
The handwoven basket in the photo is from my son's girlfriend. I've filled it with my gifts. Claire (no blogger friend) sent me the roll of CW fabrics. The yardage of gorgeous Portabella Market fabric is from Kim Brackett. The wonder wallet and recipe cards are from Cindy (in addition to what she had already sent!) The green and pink tote is from Cathi and oh so cute! The bird embroidery pillow made with gorgeous Blessings fabric along with the pincushion is from Carol. OMG...gorgeous!! Also received Starbucks gift card from Kim B. (love my coffee!!) and birthday cards from several of you along with emailed birthday cards. Please, please except my apology if for some reason I have forgotten and left anybody out! I'm sitting here trying to remember all. Thank you so much!! You all really did make my 50 special. The first birthday I didn't cry sad tears!!
Last week a won a giveaway over at Diary of a Quilter. She didn't want her remnants. Aren't these fantastic? Thanks Amy!
Still with me? Now for my birthday giveaway winners: Stitched with a Prayer and JulieKQuilts each receive some plaid fat quarters. Congrats. I'll try to pop these in the mail to you as soon as you send me your snail mails.
Now I can move on to celebrate Christmas! Merry Christmas to all!!

Mary, I'm so glad you shared the photos of your birthday treasures with us. The flowers are GORGEOUS! But then all of yours gifts are wonderful. You deserve every single one of them. And the Gray Kitten! So adorable and I thought it was so cute when I read that it was on your list and they were able to get you a kitty that really purrs!!! I'm so happy that your 50th was a wonderful birthday. I also want to say that I enjoyed every single word of this post and I was so surprised to see that I was one of the lucky winners of your birthday giveaway. I love brushed cotton. I'm so glad you had a good 50th birthday. For some people it's a rough one. I had mine a couple of months ago but to me it wasn't a big deal. Age just hasn't seemed to bother me with the number yet. Y
You are so lucky to have to many good friends, whether you've met them or not! One blogger (I forget who) said that her husband calls her blogging buddies her "make believe friends." I prefer to call mine my "best" friends. I tend to be more free with my emotions on my blog than I am in person and they know me better and understand more of what's really in my heart. My sewing blog has also brought in new friends. Have you noticed that blogging buddies often pick up on little things we say and go with it? I find that those are the ones who send the things that really touch our hearts. One of mine (from my private blog) sent me a jar of sand from a beach by her house. That simple gift still makes me smile every time I look at it and it always will. She didn't have to do it, she just did bz she knew of my love for the ocean and the beach. I may never meet her in person but she's become a dear friend to me.

Sorry for the novel here but I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your posts and the talent that you have. You also have such a sweet kind spirit and that's what keeps me coming back. :) Cindy

It's obvious that you have certainly touched many peoples lives - because they wanted you to know that they cared and wished you a happy birthday. So happy birthday as well from me - my dear sweet DIL is a Christmas Eve baby and I totally understand the whole thing. Enjoy your holidays with your family. You are truly blessed.

We are in the path of a nasty storm starting tomorrow. The good news out of that - my kids will be home a day earlier than expected. Best gift to me :).

Happy Holidays Sweet Mary - Karen

Oh, a late Happy 50th! You certainly got some good gifts. I read the compressor part too fast and thought it was for your arm and not the long arm. Couldn't figure that out. Hey, if we could use something like that to make our arms move faster.......

I love your little gray kitty! On the bright side, he won't shed all over your furniture, get fleas, scratch your upholstery, or leave "surprises" at your front door. Whenever you talk about not being able to have a cat, it makes me think of the sign in my kitchen: "We had to get rid of the kids -- the cat was allergic."

Your family cracks me up. Dirty old men! Ha!

I'm so glad you had a good birthday! I just love all your gifts.

Mary, congratulations on your 50th. I thought I was a full year older than you instead of just a few months. Sorry there was no card out, now I missed two 50th birthdays in the month of December. For someone who loves to shop for cards, I have difficulty getting them in the mail.
I hope this next year is a happy year, with lots of quilting - for yourself and your friends and much fun with your great family.
Happy Belated Birthday for WA.

I found a kitty like that in a thrift, but have never seen new ones in a store. I wanted to find one for an elderly woman I took care of.
