Tis The Season Of My Birthday

It's officially December today and my birthday month. Anybody who shares with me this birth month knows very well the feelings within. My plan is to keep as positive as I can. Those who know me will know exactly what I mean.

Tomorrow is also a sad day for my family. It is the one year anniversary of my father's passing. My mind has been heavy this week knowing where and what I was doing this time last year.

The pictures got out of order so bear with me as I share lots! The above package was received today from Carrie. Awhile back Brenda had an awesome giveaway that I posted on my blog. Carrie emailed me to say she was having a time accessing it. SO...I asked Brenda to put Carrie's name in until the problem was resolved. Carrie said she would share the FQ bundle of she won. Well, Carrie won and in the photo you see 1/2 of her winnings. She also surprised me the mitten filled with antique ric rack and buttons, chocolate and also a small little wool pincushion that I'm in desperate need of. Thanks Carrie!!!
A friend sent me this photo in an email this morning. You have to love the house on the right.

Heidi all the way in The Netherlands had a giveaway of some of her coasters. I won! Be sure to check her blog as she is having regular giveaways for her handmade coasters.

Recently I quilted the lap size quilt donated for Terry. I think Laurie is still binding it and Terry hasn't seen it yet so I can't post the quilt. But in the meantime, Terry sent me this adorable package. Thank you Terry.

The peeping beagle, Lexie is a regular visitor and it didn't help that I bought a bag of dog treats. She stops in for her treat in the morning and one on the way back home in the evening. During the day she sleeps either on my porch or yard and waits for the school bus to play with kids down the road. Lexie steals. So far found at in my yard a baseball, small plastic football, newspapers, huge car wash sponge, kid's toy walky talky (looks new) and what really flips me out is the day I saw her tossing a knife! She was real happy with that one and I managed to get it from her without neither one of us getting cut. My husband later found the leather sheath to it. My heart just aches and now I'm mad at myself for even getting involved. I put my antique sled with decor on the front porch only to find she gnawed on the wood and now moved it inside. I don't even own animals!!
The next few photos I share are pillow sham gifts that will soon be sent in the mail. The first two I made are cream on cream.
Two cute kitties.

Simple a floral basket.

This one above I did cream on cream and then a darker thread color for the rose wreath.

Then this last one is the most special to my heart. I used same cream fabric but a wee bit darker thread still in a neutral. The reason this one is special to me is the hummingbird. My dad loved to watch hummingbirds....I watched this one stitch out through tear filled eyes.
I have one rant to share about a recent purchase of four honey buns that I made online. I was charged $7.48 for shipping yet they were crammed into one of those USPS priority flimsy cardboard envelopes costing $4.95. I wish now I would have snapped a photo to show the condition that the envelope arrived in. Enough said.
It was nice having you here reading my novel today. Go get busy....just 24 days to go!

You have won some lovely goodies! Must be because it's your birthday month. :-)
I absolutely love your pillow shams! Wow!! Of course, the one with the kitties immediately caught my eye! They are all gorgeous.

Lexie is bringing you gifts. Are the doggie treats the only food she gets? I see no collar on her. I am so sorry she spoiled her welcome by chewing on the sled.

My soft heart ended up with me feeding 6 feral cats for the winter months. They pooped and peed all over our snow covered deck in return. They were soooo beautiful but we could not get near them. We managed to trap them in the spring and found a farm home for them.

You won some very lovely prizes! Everything looks so gorgeous including the quilting. My thoughts are with you tomorrow. I wrote a post on Nov 17th about my own Mom's passing. It is a hard memory, but we have to keep the good memories in our hearts.

Wow, look at all those wonderful goodies and treasures! Lucky you - blessed!

The pillow covers are beautiful. Wowzer!

Well HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you Missy!!
...LOL...this was a good 'novel'!!
You had some good winnings and your pillow shams are to die for!!

Lots of eye candy in this post, Mary. Your pillow shams are gorgeous!

I lost my Dad in 2004 and not a day goes by when I don't think about him. My heart is shedding a tear with yours.

Poor Lexie. I know she didn't mean to harm your sled. It sounds like she is bored and is in need of attention. Her owners let her run loose? Hmmmm.

Your story about your dad made me sad, until I remembered that now you have such beautiful memories. Take care of yourself.

My mom's bday is actually Christmas so I have some understanding, though I'm a Jan baby myself.
I adored the houses!! That is funny

Happy Birthday, Mary! I think Lexie has "adopted" YOU whether you like it or not. Please know you'll be in my prayers tomorrow during this difficult week.

A Happy birthday to you this month. Wonderful treasures and that pin cushion from Terry is just too adorable. You are having a sad anniversary tomorrow, I'm so sorry for your loss, I'm sure you are still very tender from it. I also note that today is the 33rd anniversary of the end of my mothers battle with breast cancer. I miss her still, and all the years of shopping we didn't have. But I remember with joy they time we had. God Bless.

Cindy said...

Sheesh, I just wrote my own novel in response to your post and it got "lost" somehow.

It looks like you made quite a haul lately with such wonderful gifts/wins. Isn't Carrie just a sweetheart?

Lexie looks so sweet looking in your window. However, it sounds like she isn't BEING sweet right now. I know it must be hard for you to shoo her away.

Oh my, your pillow shams are so pretty. You're going to make someone smile.

I hope the honey buns weren't damaged in the mail. Go head - vent - and don't be afraid to let us know where you purchased from. It's good that the circle of quilters know who's good and who's not on mailing.

Karen said...

I wondered why you ordered honey buns on line. Seems like you would get those at the grocery store. I forgot that honey buns are one of the newer fabric cuts. LOL!

I had made my mother a quilt top with family photographs and she loved it. That was about 6 months before she passed away. She had asked me to wait on hand quilting it because she wanted to take it with her when she went to visit relatives. Anyhow, it was five years before I could do the hand quilting. Too many memories.

Mary Happy Birthday month. I hope you receive the joy you merit.
You know there are patterns I want to buy that cost about $1.50to ship. I refuse to pay $4.95 shipping and handling for a pattern that I know costs less. So I feel your pain.

Wow, what a nice haul.. Lovely pillow shams that you quilted. Love those. Happy Birthday month.. My deepest sympathies to you on the loss of your dad. I lost my mother a year and half ago and my brother to cancer just two months ago, so I well know the sorrow. I know they aren't suffering any longer and are in a better place. Some day we'll join them.

So sorry you are feeling down. Those kind of anniversarys are tough. Peace to you.

Happy December birthday, Mary. Mine was on Saturday and I can no longer pretebd to be middle aged!

Your goodies are all lovely and such nice treats. I hope you will enjoy the holiday season and fill it with fond memories of your dear dad. He lives still, through you, one of the nicest blogger buddies I have!

I was drooling over your quilting!! Absolutely stunning!! Ahhh to be able to do that...!
Lovely gifts too!

I remember I "met" you on our blogs about this time last year. I feel badly for you during this difficult week...I know it's not easy. I also know how December birthday people usually get cheated a bit. (I think I told you last year about my friend whose daughter was born on Dec. 26 and each year on JUNE 26, they have a "1/2 birthday" party for her!!!) What is the matter with the owners of that beagle that he is just running loose all day long???

Terry said...

Happy birth-month! You're very welcome for the pincushion. I didn't even know it was your birthday! LOL

This will be my first Christmas without my grandmother. Her birthday was December 23...she passed away in March. So I completely understand about your dad. Hugs to you tomorrow and always.

Happy birthday coming up!
Your post brought tears to my eyes! I lost my mom in the year 2003. She loved birds and her favorite was the humming bird. Everytime I see a humming bird, I am reminded of her. Your pillow shams are very beautiful...especially the humming bird!
I am sorry for the loss of your father. I know the holidays are hard without them.

It is tough to have a birthday in December. I have three grandchildren in that situation - one on Christmas Day. We always try to make the days special for them.

I feel for you as you mark the one year date of your father's death. On my father's one year date, a friend reminded me that I had made it through the first year which would be the hardest. It was tough, but yes, we did make it.

Lovely gifts you have received. I saw the cute pillows on Terry site and loved them.

You won some very nice goodies and I am so happy for you.

OMG those pillow shams are beautiful!

My Dad passed away about 12 years ago. I refuse to make his passing an occasion, I make a point of celibrating his birthday (and his life) every year. Doing this made it a little easier for me. My Mom starts major projects - the first year she got a chain saw out and cut down half the trees in her back yard (I am not exaggerating), the second year she pulled up all the base boards in the house and refinished them. You need to do what works for you. And from the looks of your blog comments, you have lots of friends to help.

I'm sorry it's a sad time for you.

You have had some lovely gifts, but the dog bringing a knife? Where on earth did she find that?

As for your quilting, the cushion covers are gorgeous.

Oh, and I loved the photo of the houses.

What a great post. I laughed my head off at the xmas lights photo, fantastic. That dog is seriously bored I think. Beagles can be naughty. I love your beautiful pillowcases, truly special.

I'm so sorry you're feeling so sad. It does get a little easier over time.

Lexie is too cute. I'm sure you didn't think so when you saw your antique sled.

The pillow cases are beautiful! I love the designs!

December birthday girls should celebrate all month long to make up for having to share with the big guys who claim so much attention. Wink. The recent gifts are a great way to launch your birthday month! I see the locals are still finding their way to your doorstep. :-) The pillow shams are beautiful, of course I especially love the pair of feline friends. Will keep you in my thoughts as you remember your dad.

Ok so now it's my turn to ask....Just when is your birthday?

I'm so sorry to read about you losing your father last year. I can't imagine what it must feel like losing a parent.

Congrats on all your winnings. They're much deserved!

Hello Mary. I know it must be hard to have a birthday so close to Christmas.

I'm wondering why Lexie's owners let her roam the neighborhood unsupervised. She could have been really hurt with that knife. She looks like a sweet dog but the point being she's not your dog and shouldn't be your responsibility for taking away knives and such and the sled, that's a heartbreaker.

So sorry about your Dad. I can understand why the humming bird design touched you so much while you were stitching it. My mom passed away only 3 weeks after we moved into our house 12 years ago. I was hard because we had to scrap together the money for me to fly to Colorado for the funeral. Keep good memories of your Dad in your heart and he'll always be with you.

I hope you contacted that quilt place where you bought the honeybuns about the condition of the package and the cost of it too. They should reimburse you for that extra postage. I keep returning to make my purchases at the Fat Quarter Shop because they always package things up so nicely and they always arrive in good condition. They have excellent customer service.

You received some very nice gifts, lucky you.

So, you know what, don't worry about your birthday being by Christmas. Your husband and your friends will make it special for you and separate from Christmas. I made you something, was going to have it be a surprise. Well the item is still a surprise, you'll love it.

Happy birthday month. It's my birthday month, too. Personally, I like it. It's a festive time of year and everyone's already happy and chipper. I send my deepest compassion - heart to heart - at this most tender anniversary. I cannot imagine what it's like for you. I know you were his special child. Oh, friend, I'm totally bummed Lexie took advantage of the antique sled! Perhaps this is why she's a "free spirit traveler." Dear me! This would set my sense of dog love asunder. I enjoyed all the eye candy and most of all the gift from Terry. Ohhh, I love that one! Oh and before I leave I have to tell you my favorite pillow sham is the hummingbirds. Such delicate work. Wow!!!

My sympathies on the loss of your dad. Surely the lump in your throat will never entirely go away, but as time passes may be a little smaller!

Congratulations on your prizes!

My parents had a Temporary Pet too, the next door neighbor's cat. She would feed the cat whenever it showed up, which of course turned out to be nearly daily. That cat's tail was damaged when it got hit by a car and ended up 2/3 of its natural length. I can't imagine how you're going to get out of this mess but not feeding them might be a start?
