I'm Home "Again"

While in Kentucky we visited Mennonite country. I love seeing these horse buggys everywhere.
The area is absolutely beautiful and I took lots of photos and hope to share a few in the next few post.

Does the photo look familiar? I mean, guys waiting on the outside because they just aren't interested on the inside?

There wasn't that many quilts as the name of the building suggested. I was bummed until I spotted this old quilt. The blocks were only about 4" finished.

Giveaway post coming soon.

Oh, I love the pattern and colors in that quilt. I wish I could have been there with you -- it sounds like so much fun!

I saw that you had commented on someone else's post so I knew you were home! Glad you had a good trip. And yes, the picture of the boys is familiar. Did you get the eye-rolling with it? Glad you are back!

Where is the Amish community in Kentucky? Is it Crittenden County?

Where in Kentucky? We have quite a bit of family still living around Mammoth Cave area. One of the most common occurrences near my grandparents farm was cars hitting the buggy's of the Amish on the old country roads. Most of my husbands family is from around Pike County. Hope you had a great trip. Love that quilts colors!

We like to visit Amish country in Ohio.
Now how long are you feet going to be planted at home?

Ha..My husband has set on a few of those benches w/ other men while the wives buy quilt stuff. He calls it the "Dead Dick" bench.

I've never been to Mennonite country so this will be interesting. I really like the quilt, the pattern and the colors! Have a great holiday weekend! Cindy

I visited Kentucky this summer, didn't know there were Amish areas there. The quilt is pretty and looks aged-lovely!!

I am so happy you're back! You've been missed!

Good thing they had a place to sit, huh? I'll wager only men sit in those benches...men and the bags of goodies that the women have purchased.

Welcome home!

Welcome Home!
Your trip to Kentucky and the Mennonite Country sounds great! I have always enjoyed visiting areas that are known for the Amish or Mennonite. It means it is also Quilt related!!
Your boys are too cute! This looks exactly like my family! Only I have 2 girls!
The quilt you show with the 4 inch block is a Lemoyne star! I can't imagine stitching a 4" lemoyne star by hand with all those tiny points!!! Wow! Very Impressive. (I assumed it is done by hand since you are in Mennonite country and the quilt looks quite aged from the photo)
O.K. Mary you can't do a Giveaway post without me! I am supposed to be packing right now, because I am leaving tomorrow. But here I am leaving you a note! Somehow if you can include me in your giveaway I would be so thankful! :0) Now I really must go pack! Ugh.

Check out the guys! What a great shot that is. I love it. I think I'd really enjoy seeing those horse drawn buggys, too. Again, Welcome Home. ;)

Guys, huh?

I love the star quilt. I can't imagine making one with four inch blocks, though!

Love that quilt. Love the buggy's and the horse. I've gotta go there.
The boys look just like mine do when we used to go to shops together.

I love the picture of the guys outside the shop. The way they're sitting there just shouts "I'm bored" doesn't it?
I visited the Amish area round PA last year and thought the buggies were great to see. It did amuse me that they had indicators on.
I can't even imagine attempting intricate blocks that size whether by hand or machine.
Bet you're glad to be home again now?

Oh I'm feeling sorry for the guys. Thanks for sharing the photos, love the cheddar quilt a lot.
