Scrappy Quilt Back

I'm a believer that making a scrappy back is worth the trouble even though it felt as though I was making a whole other quilt! In my stash was the perfect fabric for the back; all four yards, it needed more. On the cutting table was leftovers from piecing the top and I DID pay good money for that fabric, so I pieced more stars with what I could and still added the two darker brown pieces on the sides to complete a back. Now to make and stitch binding down, a wash and dry for crinkle and I'll have a new quilt!

I love it! It's so satisfying when we don't waste any scraps. I've discovered most quilters I know to be very frugal and use every bit they can. I'm the same way! Besides which it looks great! Cindy

Oh my goodness. Luscious. I love the backing. How cool is that? Stunning. And I really really dig the Baptist Fan so you can't do anything there but highlight the beauty of this quilt in my opinion. YOU ROCK!

Pieced backs are wonderful - you've done a great job completing the quilt's story on the reverse *s*

I love pieced backs, although I don't get as fancy. I usually only use squares of fabrics I doubt I'll use elsewhere, never whole blocks. Perhaps I lack patience. This is just beautiful! Great work!

I love scrappy backs too! And your baptist fan quilting is just perfect for covering both sides beautifully. I agree that it is like making a whole 'nother quilt too! But we are quilters! That is what we do, front or back! (Oh yeah, mine is scrappy too!)

Pieced backs are my favorite kind. The only time I buy fabric for backing is when it's for a gift or I just have extra lying around. (no comment from you Missy). Can't wait to see it all crinkled up.

Gorgeous and perfect! Well done!

Your pieced backing is really nice. I know it takes longer but it's great to use up the extra fabric from the quilt top. Did you do the quilting yourself? Nice quilting.

Hey, you just gave me a wonderful idea.... I have a couple of quilt tops that my mother pieced before she died but I don't want to quilt them.... why not use them in a quilt scrapy back. Thanks....

Scrappy backs are great. One way of using up material.

I love the look of pieced backs because it almost makes the quilt reversible. In your case Mary, it is!

Isn't the anticipation of waiting to see what it looks like 'after the washing' so much fun? I just love that look...soft and antique-y looking...rather than store-bought.

Great job and thanks for sharing!

Beautiful quilt back! I love pieced backs, but I usually get in a really big hurry to baste everything together and don't take the time to do that. (Or I get lazy!) The Baptist fan quilting is wonderful. It's one of my favorite hand-quilting patterns -- I'll have to try it on the machine some day.

Adding to the back is one of my favorite things to do. Why would you go boring when you can go "pizzazz?!" Very nice, Mary.

I love the pieced back! I have done that a couple of time with leftover blocks I just couldn't part with. :D

Mary, what a beautiful backing to compliment the front! I don't think I'll ever do a plain backing again after seeing so many wonderful, pieced backings!
Cheers!

Making the backs is my least favorite job but piecing some of it makes it look neat! Good job!
